"Your servers today will be..." Opinions please!

Our administrator came out with a new form today that all CNA's are to pass out to their residents at the beginning of each shift. It reads:

Your servers today will be:

nurse______________

CNA________________

Anyone want to share an opinion on this? I was told I was being to sensitive to this, so I figured I would let all your honest and humble opinions set me straight :rotfl:

I once took care of a sweet, elderly Russian man...his English wasn't very good so he referred to all of us as his "servers." He even praised me to the nursing supervisor..."That little one who serviced me today is very, very good," he said...and I never lived it down.

If anyone else referred to me as a "server" or claimed that I "serviced" them, I would punch them in the nose...

Flare lol. I need to watch "Office Space" again.

Marie, the Office Space special edition DVD is coming out soon and I can't wait. Ummm YEahhhhhh....

Are you a nurse or a waitress?

I think it is insulting and demeaning and puts you in the same realm as a waitress (not that there is anything wrong with being a waitress!) The administrators of long term care facilities, for the most part, seem to be jealous of the nursing department. They know that they are not as educated, and that the nurses, CNAs, etc, really "run" the nursing home!!!

I am stunned that nursing administration would concur with such a card. We have dry erase boards in our patient rooms where the RN and care tech write their names so that the patient has a way to easily remember their staff members. This institution may have had such an idea in mind, but its execution is in very poor taste and as a professional nurse I would have to refuse to participate.

Wouln't it be more professional and appropriate to say "Your primary healthcare workers today will be" ? If they've got to say something, at least, that's what we all are and its not sooo degrading.

......... and has been readinging too many of those magazines (excuse me, "jourrrrrrrrnnnnnallllllllsssssss"); they need to smarten up and realize that excellent customer service in a hospital involves a great deal more than handing out cards that encourage people to demand the wrong things from staff. If the cards identified staff correctly (i.e.,such as nurse, nursing assistant, etc.), then that would be a plus for all.

As Lt. Gen. Russel Honore said recently, they are "stuck on stupid."

Dear Nascar Nurse,

Please print out all of these responses and make an appointment with your DON to discuss. Healthcare facilities seem to have bought into the notion that they should operate like a hotel or Disney World in order to be successful. If our patients want customer service, I tell them they should check into a hotel. If they want care from an intelligent professional then they have come to the right place. Good luck and stand firm to your beliefs......you are on the right track. The others have derailed and are lost.

How totally obnoxious to treat the nursing staff as wait staff! If I were a family member or resident, as a nurse, I would have issues with this. My healthcare providers or my parents', or s.o.'s, should be multi-skilled professionals and ancillary staff, not on the same order as someone who is bring my breadsticks at the Olive Garden or bringing my drinks at a buffet. What a load of dung! They should be handing out cards that say ...your servers today are...(the administrators' names)...the real staff quit because they got no respect from the admin.:angryfire

And they actually think anyone has time for this????

Maybe they need a line that says "Your Matradee today is_______" and list the DON's name. My spelling is probably incorrect, but you get the idea. I would be furious. I was a waitress for 8 years prior to nursing school, and I loved my job. However, healthcare workers are NOT servers. Your feelings are hurt, I am sure. You should sit down with the DON and explain how demeaning and belittleing this is.

The LTC industry is so broken, they don't know what else to do. The big LTC corporations are beating the customer-service thing to death. It's like a nursing home is really a hotel, and the all of the staff are "servers." Puts alot of stress on Nursing.

We went to Whiskey Creek last night and when we sat down our "server" said..."Hi...My name is Meredith and I'll be taking care of you tonight." Perhaps the restaurant managers and the nurse managers ended up at each other's conferences...
