Our administrator came out with a new form today that all CNA's are to pass out to their residents at the beginning of each shift. It reads:
Your servers today will be:
nurse______________

Anyone want to share an opinion on this? I was told I was being to sensitive to this, so I figured I would let all your honest and humble opinions set me straight :rotfl:

Well that would be appropriate for McDonalds.
Maybe it should have read...
Your servants will be:
So, sloveladyg actually states that it is insulting & demeaming to be called a server as it places nurses in the realm of waitressing? I've a query for this poster; Just what is a waitress "realm"? Yes & the (not that there is anything wrong with being a waitress) was a picked up from a yrs past Seinfeld episode wherein the entire theme of that show was @ the characters, referring to a gay person prefaced "not there is anything with that".
Princess Di
Other posters I've found a tad arrogant; those who have cited waitpersons as if that is the lowliest job on earth w/ such vitriole i can only guess that some of these RNs et al were put through school by parents, already had money et cetera. My I.Q. was as it is now when I was a dishwasher. Anyone who speaks of servers in this manner doesn't even seem to recognize that, yes, your Restaurant servers I.Q. could exceed yours when you point a finger @ them you have 3 more fingers your pointing back @ you.
Love this post, as I was a server also...and like you said I have the same IQ now as I did then, only more nursing knowledge.
However, I don't think this was meant to be a server vs. nurse issue as some are turning it into. You can't possibly compare the two...apples and oranges you know.
The real issue is that referring to a nurse as a server is demeaning to the nurses role as a professional. Waitresses no matter how smart...or not...are not professionals, nor do they work their butt's off for a degree to be seen as so. I think that is the offending issue. If a nurse is viewed as simply nothing more than a server, then that is how we will be treated by our "customers".
IMO
They are not customers, but PATIENTS...that is why they are in the hospital, not denny's
I am not a server, I am a NURSE...I provide nursing care and all that that entails (customer service included), not a slice of pie
I worked my orifice off for my degree and those sweet little letters that will follow my name, and I'll be darned if anyone takes them away from me....It is insulting to my understanding of what my job should include...I am smart enough to figure out on my own that I should provide good customer service to my patients without you labeling me a server to "remind me"!
I refuse to call my patients customers. Most of them would probably be offended if I did call them that.:angryfire When we started all this, I told our HR idiot that I felt it was an insult to them and us as professionals. Of course, this is the same person who thinks that nurses are underworked, overpaid, and a dime a dozen.
I know this is a LTC thread, but is anybody out there having Press Ganey shoved down your throat? I am so sick of hearing about "customer service" I could spit. I work in ED and if our doc makes a patient mad, we are supposed to smooth it over. I do not have it in me to suck up to a patient or anybody else, especially if somebody else caused the problem. If our ranking falls under 65th percentile, there goes any raise I may hope to get. Even if it comes from the doctor, business office, or ancillary staff.
Thanks for letting me vent. I think I need a new job

Excellent post! I don't want to put wait staff down, but frankly, I am not in school for 4 years, paying thousands of dollars and working my tushy off to have my degree equated with a job that doesn't require a High School diploma. That is simply wrong and inappropriate.

Would the people admitted to an Oncology Unit like to be called "Cancer Customers"?
