"They" really don't understand!

Published

"those" who haven't taken nursing classess wonder why "we" stress so much and why can't "we make all good grades "a", "b" consistently like "we" did taking pre-reqs or why is it so hard to get the "c" or "b" that is needed for a passing grade?

after trying to explain, "they" still don't get it. the support is great from "our" loved ones and friends, but who better to talk to than a peer who is or has "walked" in one's shoes!

i do appreciate "them" but sometimes, i need those who can relate so i may vent to others or with others!

anyone else know what i mean!

I have to admit, honestly a C is not something I would "celebrate." I would kick myself if I got a C in my nursing courses. I think I would be happy that I did well enough to continue in the program, but not to celebrate, and would be darn sure that I'd do better the next time around.

I hear you and agree. The majority of students in my class came in off the Deans list and just knew that we would be there again. Well, by the end of the semester, we just wanted to pass. Many were praying for the C. Most of us finished off with a mix of A's & B's, but there were also alot of C's out there too.

Our teachers kept telling us, "they will still call you nurse if you get a C".

Personally, I finished my last final of the semester and felt totally drained. Physically, emotional, and mentally drained. In talking with many of my fellow students, I found that I wasn't the only one. I spoke with a few during summer school and a couple were dreading going back to the grind.

Good luck to all, semester start is just around the cornor, my classes motto: "We'll get through this together!"

I can so relate to everything that has been said. I went into the nursing program with a 3.94 GPA (one B in Sociology during summer school). Was able to maintain A's through my first semester. Got a B in maternity (my favorite rotation so far) and then an A in Pedi. It was hard work and by the time the last final came, I was so drained, it did not matter if I got an A or C. (Have to get a C to keep going). There is just so much to do besides studying for tests. Clinical work-ups, patient care plans, outside assignments and write ups. Who has time for studying. Oh yes, and working to pay the bills.

Just do the best you can, as that is what is expected of you when you are out there working.

I must say that I'm glad that people really come together on this board. Nursing school is complex when you add life to it. Most people have families at home to take care of as well and ect. ect. But Ya Know, I have to laugh. The name of this thread should have been PITTY PARTY. I think that we all just throw ourselves a pitty party. I know I did. We all know that 1 semester in nursing school and you are tough as nails. Who really cares what other people think? A's, B's and an occasional C. Me, myself and I know what I made. Besides, is it what you get or what you know?

Here! Here! I studied my buns off (tried to anyway) only to hear my hubby say "Are you about done?" "Why can't you spend more time with me?" "Why do you always have your face in a book?"

Well~ it was something I wanted, and I succeeded, although my family life suffered because he just didn't understand why I HAD to study!

I came here many times to vent, cry and complain...these folks are wonderful to let stress out on! They know where we are, cause they've all been there too (or are on their way!).

Well, let me tell you about it from a slightly different view.

As I have mentioned before in previous threads, I am a 46 year old male LPN student - The only thing is, I have no family or much of a support group at all! The closest thing I have to a family since my mother passed away last year is my ex-wife (And believe it or not she is still one of my best friends in the world) - and she lives about a half hour away in another city - My friends are at least two hours away in various directions. The only ones I have that I can turn to are my fellow classmates

There are times I really wish I had a live body I could turn to and share even the most minor of accomplishements, even if they didn't have a clue as to what I am talking about!

If I hadn't found this forum and had a place to share I don't know if I could make it! Even just reading lets me know that there actually ARE other people out there who have been there and are there now!

Thank you to each and every one of you!!!!!!

Hi bedpan,

Don't feel alone! I can only imagine how difficult it is juggling school with a family, but even if they are not always 100% supportive, they at least have someone there. I won't have anyone to lean on emotionally or financially during this period. Thankfully I will have this board to vent on, but venting alone isn't a cure all to some of the problems and challenges I face. It can be done, and I will give it my best effort, but I admit I am terrified when I think of what may happen if I incur any other hardships along the way. I don't have a safety net.

shouldn't you guys be studying?

just kidding:chuckle

First of all C=RN!!!!!!

Second of all, "we" are going through it not them.....ignore them, grin and bear it. They would like to understand, but NEVER will.

At our orientation we were told to look around and on either side of us. We are looking at our family, our new best friends. If all goes as it should, they should be. It is the truth, my classmates from nursing school (or soldiers for a better word), were all very close. We depended on each other and made a deal, we were all gonna get through it togther...no one will be left behind. We only lost one in our 2nd to last semester.

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND!!!!! Once you are outta there though, things change. You develop the GN depression.

Good luck in school!!!! Remember C=RN!!!

"C=RN"

You make it sound like you're going through bootcamp. This is nursing school for god sakes.

way to shoot for the stars. My god, Would you want someone taking care of you or your family who just did enough to get through school. You show me a C average nurse, and I'll show you a mediocre nurse.

C=you need to study harder

gotosleep....

Do you know every nurse that you have ever worked with Grade from nursing school... I seriously doubt it....

And just because you make a C on a test does not mean you DO NOT know the material.. Some people just suck at tests.. You can ask them information all day long and they can give it to you, but sit them down to one of those wonderfully written nursing exams and they freeze...

Even instructors tell you that a C is nothing to cry about....

I must be lucky and /or blessed...... my "they/them" *DO* get it.
