Father, Daughter Claim Powerball Prize
Russ Ankeney and Jessica Traylor, a father and daughter from Randleman in Randolph County, NC, were excited to see their numbers come up in a recent Powerball drawing.Their ticket matched all five white balls but...

MSNBC Also states Jessica Traylor is a nurse. Interestingly enough, North Carolina has no one named Jessica Traylor licensed as a nurse. Either the news got it wrong or someone is full of it.

Maybe she's a CNA. The news is not good at discerning the difference.

I have found it to be true that a lot of people that are CNAs/HHAs/PCAs/techs will call themselves "nurses." I have also seen many LPNs identify themselves as simply "nurses", whiles RNs usually say they are "RNs".
Also FYI she could be licensed in another state. The Federal government specifically allows you to work in any state with any license from any other state. I suppose technically to say that she wasn't a nurse, you would have to search all 50 state BONs.

Did you look this up? I think it is great if one of our own won a lottery...even more so if she is a CNA who does back breaking work for way too little pay.

Or maybe her license is under a different name? For instance, a maiden name, or first husband's last name, etc. My EMT license is hyphenated, so unless you know my maiden name it's hard to find me.

I'm a little puzzled as to what your motivation was for confirming her licence - is this just a habit that you have whenever a nurse in the news? I could understand wanting to confirm it if the story was about her practice, but whatever her job is, I'm sure she's properly qualified to play and win the lottery.
PS When I saw the thread title I thought it was about that game where you shoot paintballs at people:)

I agree, CNAs/HHAs/PCAs all call themselves "nurse", they shouldn't, it is my understanding that it is against the BON rules that unless you sat for NCLEX and were given a licence you are not entitled to claim the title. I am an LPN, & proud of it. But when asked what I do I simply say I am a nurse. I do this because I got sick of people's reaction. I have heard everything from "Oh, then your not a REAL nurse" to "When do you plan to go to school to become a real nurse, you know, an RN" . Gets irritating after a while, and I really don't want to keep explaining that LPNs are REAL nurses. Until the Nursing Profession recognizes us as REAL, until hospitals insist on hiring CNAs & RNs and ignoring LPNs, we will not be accepted as real nurses by society. Sad, but true.

Are LPN's not supposed to identify themselves as nurses? I dont understand. I am a nurse too, so why do I have to specify what type?
Like someone else said, I get tired of the questions about going back to school and yadda yadda... And then their are people who equate LPN with CNA and ask "Oh, so you're a nurse's aide??" Um. No. So yeah, when asked what I do, I say I'm a nurse.
And sorry, you may have not meant anything at all by that statement, but it just hit me wrong. Thanks.

First thing I thought when I saw this was "Nice, someone can walk away from this often dreadful career."
Then I got thinking, and one thing I can assure you of is: If I won the lotto, I would not in a million years announce it. From what I understand, when you claim the prize, you can choose to remain anonymous. I would be clicking that option for sure.
Too many desperate families out there looking for an easy paycheck. They'd see a nurse who once had their grandmother won the lotto and oh boy.............all of a sudden her new onset A-fib is your fault.

How do you look up someone's license? I would suggest looking it up using her dad's last name
Why would the OP even have thought about looking up her license?
