Am I the only one who finds this annoying? Sorry, if you yourself do this, but I think people should actually knock and not yell it. How hard is it to simply knock the way we're supposed to?
Thoughts?

My hands are full, their door is open, and I'm supposed to knock? They can see me coming! I just say "knock, knock" to be polite. I guess I could put my stuff down, close the door, and then knock on it, if I were full of extra time and not too bright.

Tell HIPAA to, "Get over it" please...
HIPAA has nothing to do with it.

It scares the little old ladies when you knock on their door. They think they are still in their home by themselves. So they hear knocking and think someones at their front door in the middle of the night.
If its dark outside I turn on the light by the door which lets enough light in the room for them to see that its me and not an intrude and then wake them up quietly.

Hands full, door open, curtain closed, no where to knock...It's a friendly voice in a cold, medical environment, makes it more like home.
My grandparents had a farm, we spent a lot of time there way, way, way back in the day. Neighbors would drop by and yell "YoooHooo!!! Anyone home!" or, "Knock knock!!!! Anyone there?" We had a door bell, or they could have knocked on the door, but nothing beats a friendly voice.
Why is this such a big deal? And what does HIPAA have to do with it?

Not talking about the OP here, but I've learned that the smallest things can set off some people, and it becomes a damned if you do/damned if you don't situation.
I've run across just one nurse at work like that, and I wish I had prescriptive authority for a Xanax. Not for me...for her.

I also say it, because the sound of someone's voice is less startling to me, when I am the patient, than a knock on the door. Plus, it lets them know that the sound outside is me coming in, not just something bumping against the door or noise from the hallway.

U have to knock & announce yourself a bit loudly, as peole have iPods in their ears, and most older people are deaf. I don't yell though, just say helloooo & knock 2-3 times.
I worked with a nurse the other night I swear she was a bit deaf cos she nearly yelled the whole time, even when standing in front of you. I just can't stand those people who won't admit they need a nearing aid (my Mum being one of them). Then they wonder why people start yelling when they constantly complain: I can't hear you! Speak up!! Drives me nuts...

I knock and say "knock knock". I've never given it a second thought and I'll continue doing it.

Geee, if I had to knock hard enough for people to hear me on every door I went in, I'd have bloody knuckles!!
