THIS JUST BURNS ME UP!!!! :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire
I work in a Level 1 Trauma Center. During visitation as I was charting, a visitor said to me "It must be nice to sit in front of a computer all day?" I was at a loss for words. During a 12 hr shift, I am lucky to even get a lunch break, or to even get to sit down and chart for 30 minutes.
Do people realize what nurses do? NO...I just don't clean up poop, take blood pressures, and push pills.

:angryfire Ugh. Some ppl are just plain ignorant. I would have been tempted to deliver some 'blunt force trauma' to this visitor.

'cause the patients just take care of themselves, or do you have robo-nurses?

i don't even care what people think anymore. the only people i explain to what nurses do are those that seem to be genuinely interested. most people don't get it until they are sick or a loved one is sick. .

I wish that you had asked the visitor, "Just exactly what do you think I'm doing on the computer?"

What did you tell them? Or did you give them the 'are you serious' look?

At worse I would have answered him by saying 'it must be, unfortunately I don't.' At best, I would have explained just what I was doing. One does neither nursing or patients or the facility they work at any big favor by either not replying or replying with a smart answer.

Oh that would have ****** me ***! But I do get that alot too. Another on of my favs is "I have been waiting 20 mins and I am really sick, where did you get your education???". I usually just blow this off, but one night we had the body of a baby in one room and a 50yo woman in the other waiting for pick up from the funeral home. I just had to shut the triage door and walk away, I had NOTHING productive to say
