"I am sure...a nice young..nurse would love to help you celebrate"

They are starting to do previews of fall shows. There is a show coming out about a heart transplant unit. It has "heart" in the title but can't remember exact name. I was watching a preview, it had two recently divorced doctor speaking to each other. He said, "I just paid off my mortgage, I was going to ask you to celebrate with me but then I remembered we are divorced." She said, "I am sure you could find a nice young nurse who would love to help you celebrate". :angryfire That is one fall show that is already crossed off my list.

The funny part is that I work with a lot of young nurses, and most are married or engaged.

That line was supposed to be a hook to pull new viewers into show. Instead they pushed me away. That was the point I was trying to make. Not into soap operas, medical or otherwise.

funny....i looked at it that man remains shallow in desiring only a young woman.

See, my theory is, there's no way I could ever keep up with a woman my age, whereas if I found myself a 20 yr old cutie, by the time she was in her sexual prime, she could use my life insurance to get herself a 19 yr old tennis instructor...

I'm kidding, of course. I like my women like I like my coffee: old, cold, and bitter.

er,ah,um,er...just trying to do my part to keep America vampire-free.

Couple of friends and I were talking about doing our own screenplay for a show about nurses. I think it needs a distinguished, middle-aged male nurse who goes around having affairs with cute, young, female interns. I pictured the part played by George Clooney.

My friends said they saw it more as a Wilford Brimley role. I'm not sure what they are trying to imply.

This only reinforces the false stereotype that attractive young women enter the nursing profession for the sole purpose of dating, marrying, or seducing doctors.
Do some people still think like that?? I would never marry a doctor..they mostly all cheat on their wives. Plus, most of the docs I have exposure to are old..Blecchhh.

Now be fair. Don't you think that's just as bad as saying that all nurses are slutty young girls who only want to marry a rich doc?? I don't want to marry a doc either, but not for that reason! :lol2:

Wish they would have said "I am sure some experienced divorced slightly overweight nurse will be happy to let you spend some cash to go dancing" Celebrate is too vague to interest me in a date, please spell out what you might be suggesting. LOL Geeze and what nurse would want to date some divorced doc, the ex is getting all the money so you would need to bring your credit cards along.

Yes! You go sis!! BTW I didn't get into nursing to "snag a doc" they are the LAST people I would consider dating!!!!

My niece is a Doctor and she married a Doctor and it is incredibly difficult to be around either one of them. Going to Medical school and becoming an MD is not good for any human being. It is part of the socialization that occurs in medical schools versus nursing schools. Dr Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio talks about it in her seminars. The differences are astounding and it isn't just the stereotypical male/female thing. There should be more research done on it.

I have a couple of gripes about Heartland, but bad treatment of nurses is not one of them. As someone else pointed out, the head surgeon (who was trying to coordinate a multiple patient kidney transplant) actually booted a cocky young surgeon off one of the surgical teams for not listening to the nurse who was trying to tell him his patient was headed for fluid overload with too high an IV drip rate. I 'bout clapped and cheered when he pointed out to the young buck that his experience was virtually nil compared to the nurse who had seen several hundred of the procedures. The message was that he'd do well to respect the extremely capable nurses instead of pulling rank.

Oddly enough, in this particular series, it's the docs who beat each other up. Maybe on a doc website, there will be a new wave of threads about doctors, especially surgeons, eating their young.
