Does anybody else hate the term "closure". I feel it is one of the most overused and banal terms. Everytime you turm around someone is in the media describing how they want "closure" on this or that or the other.
Aaaargh!!!!
My rant has stopped!

what term would you use in its place?
I guess it is not just the term but the overuse of it. Anyone who has suffered anything wants closure. Cut your hand, you need closure, lost a spouse...closure, thousands dead from natural disaster...closure. Pretty soon, everything will be closed and then people will "open up" but then people will want closure on that.
More psycho-babble.
virtually every distressful situation is attempted to be explained with "psychobabble"....it is our way of trying to make sense of things and put them into a perspective we can adapt to and understand. I see nothing at all wrong with it. If it does not fit, you don't try on the shoe.

How about "paradigm shift" and "let's think outside of the box?"

I hate those over used phrases, too. Not sure what it is about "closure" that is so particualrly annoying, but it sure is. I think society has a need for melodrama. Why can't we just "get over it" or "move on" like we used to?
i am not sure people did back then, sbic.

Catch phrases can get annoying when overused, for sure. How about 'work smarter not harder'. Like that'll fix it all up, eh?
And 'critical thinking' is starting to get on my last nerve too....
A lot of these buzzwords are adopted and used in condescending fashion by managers too, and used to criticize individuals for supposed failures vs looking at and dealing with the real problems.

I totally agree with you on that, mattsmom81! :chuckle
If one does not have a BSN, then somehow they missed out on learning how to think critically??? I think NOT! :chuckle

Yep, closure bugs me too . . . what the heck does that mean anyway? Amnesia?
Over-used catch phrases are like listening to Top 40's radio . . . . .even the song you like gets irritating.
The one that really bugs me is "you go girl".

There is never any real closure to anything that is painful or stressful. There may be softening of memory but closure to me implies putting it away...in a box so to speak....so that being around you will make OTHER people less uncomfortable.
Buzz words, jargon, psychobabble are used by people who don't bother to think about what they are saying or don't care enough to think.

Passive Aggressive makes me rise out of my shell and try to beat the person saying it!!!!
All too often these buzz works are oversikmplifications of a comples subject.
