"But I'm pregnant . . ."

Published

Along the lines of the "But I have little kids . . . . " thread:

One of my co-workers announced her pregnancy this week, stating that she was no longer willing to work weekends or holidays because she's going to be a parent. She also has to have Christmas off because this is going to be her last child-free Christmas. Oh and by the way, she can't take care of anyone with VRE, MRSA, or any other type of isolation. "Yukky wounds" make her nauseous, so she can't take those patients -- in fact, wouldn't it be best to just have her do charge all the time?

We're a large unit and have 1 - 6 nurses pregnant at any given time. Plus there are those who can't travel to interventional radiology, take infected patients, etc. because they're TRYING to get pregnant.

The last nurse to have her baby had to sit in the chair her entire shift "because I'm pregnant," and had orientees to do everything for her. Not the role of I preceptor, I'm thinking!

What's the strangest/most irritating thing you've had a coworker demand because she's pregnant?

THIRD SHIFT GUY: RE: your posts #30, # 32, # 38 et al,

This week marks six months of your following me around the

BB negatively critiquing my every post.

If anyone is interested....read my posts.

Certain people on this BB have paranoid fantasies about cyber stalking. Quite frankly, the fact that an individual points out the exact postings leads me to think that they are the Stalker rather than the Stalked.

OK, I'm confused as usual. When did we go from pregnant co-worker to stalker? And who is/are the troll(s)? Ohhhh, I'm sooooo confused

Stalking Club huh.....:)

Now I'm the paranoid one, wondering if the accused goes to threads I'm in and posts the opposite of me think like "those who posted this way are arrogant....etc....." just to get me to respond. Makes it convenient to be the victum then, eh? Did she not think I was going to respond to the "males need not respond here" thing, then turn around accuse me of stalking. Please.

Too silly. Can't waste my time. (Of course now we're off topic and may get shut down. )

And on topic, I do plenty of Chemo and administer Ganglicyclovir and Thalidomide for pregnant coworkers.

But to say that she rates holidaysweekends off.....I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!!

i'm resurrecting this old thread again -- partly just to stir things up, and partyly because i've had a totally new experience with pregnant co-workers. standing in line for the one employee bathroom that serves 17 nurses, 4 residents, 3 clerical associates, 2 supply associates, 2 cnas, 2 cleaning associates, 1 intensivist and about 7 orientees, i finally made it to the head of the line. my legs are crossed and my eyeballs are yellow -- i've taken my diuretics this morning like a good girl, and this is my first chance to go to the bathroom. as i reach for the doorknob, a pregnant coworker swoops in ahead of me.

"sorry," she says blithely. "i'm preggo. really gotta go."

i grabbed the door before she could close it and said, "sorry. my turn. diuretics. i really gotta go, too."

i cannot believe the nerve! assuming that because she's pregnant, she automatically gets to go to the head of the bathroom line! if she had asked me, i might have let her go first. (probably not, at least not that particular time.) but now she has just guaranteed that i will never let her into the bathroom line ahead of me again!

i worked 4-8 hour shifts up until my 32nd week of my twin pregnancy and worked 4-4 hour shifts until 34 weeks.

there were some situations that i didn't feel comfortable with and that usually involved lifting and pushing a bed. i was a great butt wiper and occupied bed changer

i floated throughout the hospital and they generally wouldn't give me the patients in isolation but they knew i would do any admission, start any iv, put down any ng and take any other patient and worked-

i was part of a team and i negotiated ways we could work things out and they knew when i wasn't pregnant that i worked my tush off.

these nurses who are "slacking" now probably always were slackers---just a thought......

i think your co-worker was very rude for skipping in front of you without asking first. that said...i am almost due and when i get the urge to go these days i get no advance warning. i have had a few occasions when i have almost wet myself because the baby decided to slam it's head into my bladder. so maybe she really was about to urinate on herself and wasn't taking advantage of her pregnant state. pregnancy is no excuse to turn into a total slacker but sometimes a little extra consideration is due.

I really admired this CNA i worked with. she was 9months preggo, working right along side me, only thing she couldnt do was heavy lifting, dr. orders.

A person on diuretics can have some really darn urgent needs, too. So no I do not think the pg person deserved SPECIAL consideration. Esp not the way she just "took" it.
