Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

Published

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

That definitely is not accepted for the Visa Screen Certificate, the VSC actually doesn't require a credentials eval, you will still need to get that.

Visa Screen Certificate has nothing to do with working etc, it is given after they have reviewed you, as well as your passing of the NCLEX exam, or the CGFNS exam, plus the English exams, if you are n ot exempt from them.

Even those that use CES for the Credentials Eval thru CGFNS, still need to get a Visa Screen Certificate. Even those from Canada coming on a NAFTA TN Visa. Sorry, but no way around it.

thanks-i probably wasnt clear-the az bon will accept either vsc-or a credential evaluation service-i appreciate that i need the vsc anyway but it seems to be quicker to send off the vsc to cgfns separately and the ierf to az bon to get that application rolling-or am i missing something?-thanks

Hi, is Vermont a compact state? Can I endorse to California if I applied at Vermont?

You are misunderstanding that. AZ will accept the evaluation service that you were talking about or the CES. That is required before you will be given permission to even sit for the exam. The Visa Screen Certificate has nothing to do with being required for AZ, it is for immigration use only by the US Government.

You are having to submit two complete sets of documents, one for each. If you go with the CES and VSC, you just need those two applcations and one set of documents.

If you are not living in the state that is a compact state, then the compact part has absolutely nothing to do with you. So it makes absolutely no difference. You still need to apply for Licensure by Endorsement.

When you do hold a compact license and live in that state, you can use your same license to work in the other compact states, without having to go thru the endorsement process, but, if you move form that state, or never live there, then the compact part of the license is null and void. You will only hold a license in that state.

You can apply for License by Endorsement to any state in the US. It is up to each state if you meet their educational requirements. If you have a four year degree from a traditional program, you should not have any issues.

suzanne-thanks after much reading i've gone for the ces and vsc-thanks

Smart move as some states will only accept the CES, and if you wish to endorse later on...............

expensive, though.:p:p:p

expensive, though.:p:p:p

not at all, if you go with ces from the beginning, if that is what is needed. anytime you start to use something that hasn't been used much, you run the threat of it not being accepted all over. so, yes it would be expensive if you went with a different credentials eval than ces, and then had to do ces at a later time.

there isn't much difference in price between the two.

I would also like to ask if you need to pass the application and the verification application at the same time in New York? there was a question there specifically in #7 of page 5, that you need to write your SSN and/or New York State Assigned Number. Should i leave that blank?

I agree, esp. if you're gonna endorse later on to another state w/c also uses CES as a req't since majority uses this service.

It depends on your funds, my suggestion is to do everything at the same time, but if you can only afford to do one thing at a time, do the CVS first for NY. NY cannot do anything with your application until they have the report from CGFNS. Nothing can be done without that. If you do not have a SSN#, then you leave that blank.

Make sure that you include a copy of your passport with your application for NY.

The issue usually comes up if you have gotten approval from one state, then register with Pearson-Vue, then decide on another state, and when Pearson-Vue has two accounts for you, then havoc can erupt.

You should be just fine.:)

Hello Suzanne :)

I've sent my application to Vermont & would like to go ahead with my registration with PearsonVue which I know will be valid for only 365 days. I understand that Vermont BON does their own Credentials Evaluation. I am a RN holding a Nursing Diploma from Singapore & have 2 years (full-time) ER experience. I am currently doing my BSN. Do you know if my hours will be sufficient or do you foresee my having to take some classes to make up the hours? Thank you.
