Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Those three steps are for NY, right? Which one comes first? Can it be applied at the same time?

You can do all three at the same time, if you can only afford to do one at a time, the most important is the CVS, as nothing can progress without that.

Thanks for the quick reply Suzanne, here's another question, I know that CVS is done by cgfns alone, you only pay. Do you have any idea if the data that they are asking in CVS is the same as those data needed in CES(transcripts & license verification)?

I have some questions about obtaining a US state license. Currently I am just finishing up my BsN in Canada (will have it completed in March). I was going to apply through MN BON to get licensed but after reading many posts I am not sure if i should go that route or through NY. If I go through NY will it be quicker for me ..... read in another post on here that MN was fast for Canadians. What is the advantage of me going through NY rather then MN.

When i apply for the license in either state I will have to put that I do not currently have an RN license but will have a grad nurse license .. as i will be taking the CRN exam in June... will I have to put down that I am a grad nurse??

My last question is the BsN program that I am in is a Joint program. what i mean by this is that the first 3 years of my program are done through a College (we have some university instructors come teach us) however all of our humanities and our Th and final year is through the university. my transcripts and degree will both come from the univercity...... so should i put down on the application that i attended both schools or just the one where my degree and transcripts come from.

Sorry I have one more question that I am a bit foggy on. If I chose to go through the NY BON and do the CVS do i still have to apply for the visa screen or does going through NY just help out the process because they get all the info previously??

Hi Suzanne, I got great news for a lot of the nurses who are always around the forum, look at the web of ncsbn. There are new international centers to take nclex. sorry, but im so excited!!:roll

Now I can take nclex in Germany, Mexico and Canada, and so on, which diminishes my obtaining visa difficulties, so Im going to take NCLEX, but I have to register to a board which one you recommend as the quickest to give me my ATT, and also which are the boards that do not require a SSN (cause Im outside US)

And after passing the NCLEX (TOEFL is done) what should I do, Does the state I applied give me a License and with that Can I go to the US embassy to ask for my visa?

I am not sure but I think that passing NCLEX is by far quickest than getting visascreen and...you know. Or Am I misunderstanding you?

Florida BON looks like easy, thy will make it in short time, but not sure about the SSN that is why I need your advice about other states, u know..me like everybody wants it the quickest

florida will not give you a license without a social security number.

cvs-ny is different from ces because for ces the applicant sends the request for documents(in fact, the certificate issuing authorities, nursing school and licensing body, send the document to cgfns). but for cvs cgfns itself sends the request to schools or nursing licensing authority in your country of education.

if you already have a ces apply in those states which only require ces. the same documents can be used for visa screen also, however, you have to pay the full fee. states like vermont, ca, new mexico do their own credential evaluation. some other states require cgfns for initial licensure. rest accept ces from cgfns.

yes, it is a great news for all nurses outside usa who want to take nclex. india is also included.

about the quickest bon to process your application- first, decide on which state you plan to work. each state has different requirements. some states like, ny, vermont, new mexico issue you a license without cgfns certificate or social security number. ny requires a special credential verification service(provided by cgfns) which takes up to 6 months. other two states do their own credential evaluation and take about 3-4 months in average.

visa screen(also a service of cgfns) is a totally different thing. it is required for processing your immigrant visa. you will be issued visa screen once you meet the requirements(credentials evaluation, passing of either nclex-rn or cgfns and series of english exams). it doesn't take much time for cgfns to issue your vs certificate after they receive all your documents(up to 4 weeks maximum). vsc is the fastest of all services cgfns provides.

you do not go to the embassy and ask for visa(immigrant visa). once you pass the nclex-rn or cgfns exam, you can look for an employer. your employer has to file a petition for your visa. the most popular english exams are toefl(both twe and tse or the toefl ibt), and ielts. if you have done only toefl(without tse) you have to do tse(test of speaking english) also.

all forign born nurses require visa screen certificate to process their employment based immigrant visa.

if you apply for cvs-ny you will not be exempt from visa screen certificate requirement but the same documents obtained by cgfns for the cvs can be used for visa scren certificate as well. you do not have to re send the documents for visa screen. you can just mail the paper application or apply online and pay the fee.

Similar but the biggest difference is that with the CVS, CGFNS is required to obtain all of the documents, per NY rulings. With the CEs, you need to have everything sent to CGFNS.
