Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

Specializes in Nephro, ICU, LTC and counting.
thanks for the reply-my plan is to work in az-so i intend to apply through their board withan ierf certificate-1 question-if i then decide to work in another state (and not az) how easy is it to xfer this-thanks

if you have a license in one state, you can endorse it to another state.. but each state has different requirements which you must meet before being granted a license. as suzanne says,"license is not transferable, it is endorsed from one to another state."

Hi! I'm planning to take the NCLEX but don't know how to begin.I earned my BSN degree in Philippines and presently working in UAE. Is it possible to request for documents from CGFNS to submit to the board of nursing in the state i wished to apply, and how much is the processing fee? Hoping you can help me in taking that first step.:)

thanks for the reply-my plan is to work in az-so i intend to apply through their board withan IERF certificate-1 question-if i then decide to work in another state (and not az) how easy is it to xfer this-thanks

Arizona is part of the compact states which includes about 20 or so states that have made agreements with each other to make it easier to endorse nursing licenses between them. However, I don't know how easy it is to do. What you need to do is to check out the nursing board website of the state that you are interested in working in and look at their requirements for nurses holding licenses from a compact state, if applicable, or from a non-compact state.

I found the AZ state board very straightforward and prompt in their handling of my case. The most critical part is for you to apply and send all the documents needed for the Credentials Evaluation Service (CES) Report because this is the one that takes the most time. Access the cfgns website for this service. Hope this helps.

What is an IERF Certificate? That is a new one on me.

Az is a ocmpact state, so if you keep your residence there, then your license is good in all fo the compact states. But if you move, then you will need to apply for licensure by endorsement. Your Az license will not transfer, you will be keeping that and will be getting a new license in the new state.

The compact license is actually only good if you continue to keep a legal residence in AZ, if you move from there, you will need to apply for licensure in the other states. With the compact license, you do not need to endorse, you can use that license in any other compact states. That was the reason for it, to avoid having to endorse and hold multiple other licenses. But there are restrictions on it, and it says right on the license, if you leave the state, meaning move out of it entirely, then your complact license becomes null and void. Only your AZ part of the license will continue.

thanks-the IERF is the International Education Research foundation-(an educational equivalancy report) th asbn accept-this takes about 30- 40 working days (about 240 dollars)-my question now (sorry) is that this is accepted in lieu of the vsc-but i have to complete the vsc anyway right? so am i better off just doing the vsc or will this take longer-and can i complete the vsc without a specific job to go to?-thanks again

thanks-im planning to apply in az -a compact state-how difficult is it to xfer this to a non-compact state-is it the equivalent of starting the process again -are we talking months, weeks etc? i know all states are different but a general idea would be very helpful

That definitely is not accepted for the Visa Screen Certificate, the VSC actually doesn't require a credentials eval, you will still need to get that.

Visa Screen Certificate has nothing to do with working etc, it is given after they have reviewed you, as well as your passing of the NCLEX exam, or the CGFNS exam, plus the English exams, if you are n ot exempt from them.

Even those that use CES for the Credentials Eval thru CGFNS, still need to get a Visa Screen Certificate. Even those from Canada coming on a NAFTA TN Visa. Sorry, but no way around it.

Licenses are never transferred. You will need to endorse your license to the new state. A compact license also becomes null and vvoid, if you move out of Arizona. For endorsement, you need to apply for licensure by endorsement.

Depends on where you are going to go to. CA will actually issue you a temporary license that day in their office in Sacramento, others can take two months.............it varies widely.
