As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.
Hope that this helps................ :balloons:
Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.
I need an angel to help me . I have just completed all the prerequisites for the North Harris Community College nursing program and am about to apply for acceptance. I still need to take the "hesi"(sic) test and was told to purchase a study guide from them(hesi??). Do you know what they are referring to , I can't locate this study guide on line. The test I am referring to is the english(logical thinking) and math test required before applying to the nursing program. I need a peer to help me thru the mire and muck of all the prerequisites necessary to apply. can you help me?
I have a follow up question, what about if he is to get a visa screen which is required when applying for an immigrant visa to US, from what I know, it requires one to be an RN since cgfns needs a verification from the PRC(the licensing body of the Philippines)right? So in his case, how could that be if he is not yet an RN since the PRC won't allow him to be an RN in the Philippines.
Look closely, it doesn say that it is required, just if you have it, then you need to list it. The only requirement is a completed set of transcripts. There are actually quite a few from the Philippines that are no longer going for licensure in the Philippines, only concentrating on the US exams.
hi suzannei have questions with regard to endorsement. if i choose to take the NY nclex & if i pass the exam, then i would endorse for CA. what if my petitioner is in CA? will they process my immigration papers if i am licensed in NY? or have it endorsed first before processing my immigration visa?
can someone process my endorsement, or do i need to process it personally in NY? and how long will the endorsement take?
thank you so much suzanne. you're an angel.
Immigration is based on where your ewmployer is, not where you are licensed. One has nothing to do with the other.
You can endorse to CA and get a temporary license in one day. You need to take care of the application process yourself since you hold the license. It is just a matter of filling out an application and paying a fee. Very simple.

HESI exams are done pre-and post nursing school for some programs, as well as duiing the semesters.
Try looking via a Google search with the capital letters HESI and I am sure that you will find something, or just post something on the student forum.

How long will the petition or the processing of my immigration vise going to take? Will the process start from the time I've received the VSC? i'm in the Philippines.
thank you so much
You need to have an empoyer do the petitioning for you. And that will not even begin to happen until you pass the NCLEX exam.
Visa Screen Certificate is just a requirement that needs to be submitted before you will get the green card, but having it has nothing to do with the immigration process. Immigration petitioning is something that needs to be done by the employer that you select.
NCLEX, English exam,s etc. are just part of the process. And no petition can be filed for anyone without passing at least CGFNS exam or NCLEX. That is a requirement of the US government.
hi suzanne4i wish i had access to you earlier,im here now and reading your article makes a lot of sense.my friend has failed her nclex in uk,with an agency and wants to know if she can arrange to book it herself in uk or usa,if so how does she go about it?
Of course she can retake it on her own. Depends on the state that she was taking it for, some are 45 day wait and others are three months, She just needs to resubmit an application to that state and pay the fee, and pay for the NCLEX exam at www.pearsonvue.com.
The simple and the smarter way of doing things.
hi suzanne"why do you recommend vt over ny if ca is the destination state? how fast it is as opposed to applying in ny? are requirements the same between the two states?" (as asked by nourish013)
what are the disadvantage of going the vt route?
thank you so much.
debbie'
she is recommending vt because it is faster and issues a hard license. for ny you got to go through the credential verification service(done by cgfns) which may take up to 6-9 months. vt does its credential evaluation itself, so does ca but ca does not issue a hard license without ssn.
advantages and disadvatages of these three states on the basis of cgfns requirement** processing time ** and ssn vs. license issuence
ca### cgfns not required * processing time 4-6 months* license not issued without ssn
vt### cgfns requirement none*processing time i am not sure* license issued without ssn
[color=gray]ny### cvs required* cvs takes 6-9months+nysed takes 2-3weeks for eligibility* license issued without ssn.
