As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Actually CGFNS will be the ones doing the verifiying for NY. They are the ones that do all of the actual contacting for verifications of schooling, as well as licensure.

I got the letter today, I guess I was getting paranoid and it's been quicker than I expected.Coz I sent off my stuff to CGFNS and they got them and I payed on july 5th '05.
I am actuall using Saunders, and have the review cards from Mosby and the other cards are from Springhouse. I have had the Lippingcte and NCLEX-Made Easyas well(went crazy) but my main ones are the Saunders and the review cards I use when on the move or out and about.

I've just seen your post. I have just gone thru NY myself so if you need any tips, not that I have much. I am in London , whereabout are you and how far with the reviewing? I noticed you mentioned that your school closed I put the name of the school and the University as well. If you do your form online then print it for posting they do have the list of schools there mine was there although now all the studying is at the University.I don't know if Im making sense but if you need help do PM me. i have been atending a lot of immigration seminar here in the Phils... the last time i've attended was the immigration seminar for L.A under I140. they said that the immigration process is really slow no matter what state processing you apply to.... in vermont, texas, california, etc....)
then, lately i've attended an immingration seminar that was sponsored by a hospital in MARYLAND then they say that the immigration processing now can take only abou 7 to 9 months processing, so i'm confused with regards to the processing time... what is really true to this? how long is the actual processing under immigrant visa.... i'm not connected yet to any agency because i want to make sure everything first. then, i want to sign up to an agency that is realible and can process my papers fast....
Right now California has been about six to eight months, but if you wait any longer, you may get caught up in another retrogression that is looming. Currently, all processiong is under one year. Do not base your choice on the quickest time, as that is subject to change at any time, it can, it does, and it will. Make your selection on where you wish to work, etc.
Would you be kind enough to explain what retrogression means?
I am a nurse from Mexico and I started my Nursing program rigth after the twelveth grade, and then I studied three years in Nursing school and after graduation of Nursing school I finished high-school. Then after some years I did the RN-to-BSN program in Mexico. Also I studied a post-technicnical-nursing-pediatrics course of eleven months, and currently I am doing pre-required-nursing courses at a junior college in Kansas ( I am a Int'l student under a F-1 visa).
My question is . if I applied to NY state will I have some chance to get approved since the way that we studied Nursing in Mexico sounds a little ackward.
I went throught the whole process with the CGFNS and they canceled my application. Does it has to do with retrogression?.
I have three more years of student visa, but it is very difficult and competitive to go into a Nursing program at public schools.
Once again thanks for the encouragement on my studies. I'll promise to work very hard and do my best to get into Nursing program. It's my dream ambition and that's what I'm going to be.
I have a few questions regarding about the NURSING studies in the U.S. As you know I'm transferring so that I could graduate with a BSN, take the NCLEX exam and work there so that I could be with my family.
Am I considered a FOREIGN NURSE evenf I graduated from a U.S University/ Institution and took the NCLEX Exam?
Please tell me where would be a great place to do a BSN in NURSING...I need a little opinion here because you're experience in this field, so I just want to know which state would be a great plase to study nursing and of course oppurtunities on obtaining the green card. So, please tell me your point of view on these univresities below...

YES, but it is not suggested. California takes too long, and then you still need to deal with CGFNS for the Visa Screen Certificate, anyhow. My suggestion is to follow the sticky at the top of the page, and use NY.
I do not recommend CA for initial licensure for any foreign nurse...........you will not find out your score in two days lijke you will with NY, for another example.

If you do not have a US passport, you are a foreign nurse and have to get a green card. There is no way around that. You will need to get a Visa Screen Certificate as well.
NY is not any faster in getting a green card, where you get a nursing license has nothing to do with immigration. Immigration is what handles the green card, and they change all of the time. Not sure what things will be like in three years plus.
Again, worry about getting accepted into an actual nursing program and finishing your studies, you have at least three years to go.:balloons:
