That is correct unless you are a RN with full hours in maternal/child pediatrics med/surgery and psychiatry you can get the NAFTA status.

  3. Hello, I am aMexican nurse working in a facility--hospital-- in the midwest. As far as I know, CGFNS Certification Program is not required by many states. However, when asking for a TN Visa the foreigner nurse might show the VISA SCREEN certificate in order to get the above mentioned temporary working visa. Therefore, in order for any foreigner; either internationally or USA educated nurse whose passport is not from the United States of America, the nurse should show proof of: Initial Licence in the United States of America as first level nurse Passed either the IELTS, TOEFL iBT or CBT and send transcript from the school of nursing where you attended nursing school. All this should be sent to the CGFNS VISA SCREEN Service in order to obtain the mentioned document as a proof to immigration authorities that you has the minimum requirements to work as a first level RN in this country. No way around. If a "agency" or nursing professor or even a facility tells you that this is no required, do not risk your self sooner or later somebody --immigration people-- will ask for it and you will be caught. Additionally, if you want or need to advance your career and go to graduate school pretty much all graduate nursing school will ask for the CGFNS Certification Program document besides your nursing license; if you are a foreigner trained nurse,. Even if you are a green card or USA citizen, --I will go to grad school this fall and any that I am aplying is aking for the CP of CGFNS.-- As a side comment. English test is not that difficult you just need to take English classes to college level for about a year and you will be ready to write, read and specially communicate( even on the phone) with co-workers, MD'S and of course do teaching to your patients and specially discard teaching. Good Luck.:paw:
  4. Thanks to everybody for all the post about this topic. I just finish my 12wks of orientation, and boy it was so difficult in the beginning. I am a foreigner nurse with 10+ years of experience, but things are done different in any unit, so I struggle a lot because I am a " experienced nurse" and I should not be slow........but well I was like that at the beginning mainly because trying to overcome the fear of working in a different country speaking English as second language was not that fun as I expected....now it is. Anyways, I think now I am more part of the team and yes we get more help when we ask questions and for help. I was told to improve communicating effectively with parents, pharmacy, lab. xray, etc because sometimes I am ashame to do so due to the strong accent I have................well........everybody has been nice and they say it will come with time and my teammates try to get me to speak more at work. I appreciated when my preceptors said." here is the phone" and I was like I LOVE NICU:redbeathe
  5. I work in a NICU where we have three male nurses, they are very knowledgeable and their care is excellent. I love when they feed babies. Two of them are married and other one is single. In NICU we are a team of nurses without gender

Hello Happy Holidays to all, The company where my husband work gave us a iPod touch ( wives and hubands); I think it is a good device for nursing use besides calculator Therefore my question is for all NICU nurses, do you know of sites with CE Podcast, softaware, nursing conferences Podcast etc. Currently I work in a Regional hospital with 40 so NICU beds and transport team, any help regarding what to download on this new device will be appreciate. Thanks.
  8. hello! i am a td also ( mexican) and there is no way to by pass vsc in anyways. i've been here since 2001 with a f-1 visa until may 2006, then from may '06 to nov '07 under td and now seeking tn ( appointment by the end of nov). if your school of nursing, board in canada, board in usa send the required documents and english test results ( if apply) to cgfns and you pay for your application ahead, cgfns says that it takes 6-8 weeks after they receive the last document from the above mentioned agencies ,to review, issue and mail the vscetificate, so think about it. also just fyi if you try to go to any us consulate or embassy in mexican territory, you will be ask to e-mail or mail ( courier) your documents to a preview by an immigration officer then they will set an appointment for you. try to speak with the nurse recruiter and hr to explain a little bit the process and how long it will take, so perhaps , they really want you and they will wait for you. ( the facility where i will work has been waiting two months) good luck!! i hope this info helps. thanks.
  9. Thanks for the information; I will try with the employment letter I already have; it only lacks the length of the the contract. Again thanks.
  10. Hello I recently applied in a HCA facility in the MIDWEST; I got my employment letter, but it is three lines long. Basically, the letter has been addressed "To Whom It May Concern" ; it has my name , date of birth the type of position, hours per week (full-time) , salary and the name of the facility. It has been signed by the N. Recruiter HR. and it has the contact phone #. It is on stationary letter paper. My question is, do you think this is good enough or will I be required by the official to bring another that it clearly states that I am being petiotioned for the TN-NAFTA visa. I ask this because the NRecruiter told me that that is the only employment letter she can give me. What are your experiences can you share?

I am assuming that you are a USA nurse right?.....well you can check this out Canada and the North American Free Trade Agreement In January 1994, Canada, the United States and Mexico launched the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and formed the world's largest free trade area. The Agreement has brought economic growth and rising standards of living for people in all three countries. In addition, NAFTA has established a strong foundation for future growth and has set a valuable example of the benefits of trade liberalization. Find the text of the Agreement, publications and general information. Topics include an overview of the NAFTA, rules of origin, temporary entry of business persons, NAFTA institutions and contacts. http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/nafta-alena/menu-en.asp http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/nafta-alena/over-en.asp Basically you will need:State license, English test and visa http://www.crnbc.ca/ http://www.cno.org/ Otherwise if you are Canadian and like to work in USA Requirements for Canadian Citizens Canadian citizens usually do not need a visa as a NAFTA Professional, although a visa can be issued to qualified TN visa applicants upon request. However, a Canadian residing in another country with a non-Canadian spouse and children would need a visa to enable the spouse and children to be able to apply for a visa to accompany or join the NAFTA Professional, as a TD visa holder. To apply for visa, please see the requirements under the section Mexican Citizens - Applying for a TN Visa - Required Documentation. A Canadian citizen without a TN visa can apply at a U.S. port of entry with all of the following: * Request for admission under TN status to Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, U.S. immigration officer; * Employment Letter - Evidence of professional employment. See Employment Letter below; * Proof of professional qualifications, such as transcripts of grades, licenses, certificates, degrees, and/or records of previous employment; * Proof of ability to meet applicable license requirements; * Proof of Canadian citizenship- Canadian citizens may present a passport, as visas are not required, or they may provide secondary evidence, such as a birth certificate. However, Canadian citizens traveling to the United States from outside the Western Hemisphere are required to present a valid passport at the port-of-entry; * Fee of U.S. $50 http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1274.html Basically you will need NCLEX, VSC , English exam and TN visa.
  12. Dear SUZANNE4 This is a big personal thanks for all your advice and encourage. Your time spent in this forum; I am sure, pays back when you know about stories like this. All credit for your advice and help. I will keep you posted on how work life is in US...........SUZANNE4 FOR EVER:balloons::balloons::balloons: :balloons:
  13. i am not working as rn yet. hopefully i will start by the end of next moth, but after having the interview with the nurse director and nurse manager i just loved the facility. i am following ma'm suzanne4 advice in everything and things are working well. i have 10+ years of experience as nicu nurse, so during the interview i was able to demostrate that and i felt they valued it. this nicu has 40 beds wich is quite larger than the one i worked in mexico ( only 12). i know challenges will come ( specially with technology), but i am very happy that finally i landed my dream job. after finishing the orientation period i will post again to let you know guys how work is so far. needless to say that i am very happy because i got a good rate + sign on bonus without an agency. thanks suzanne4 for always encouraging us to be professionals, invest time to research hospitals and do our best in trying direct hiring, it pays back by the way, i will be working under a temporary visa (nafta-tn for canadians and mexicans)
  14. :balloons: happy birthday suzanne4........ever the best!!
  15. Dear SUZANNE4 Speaking about correct and appropiate answer, I have a question related to immigration. Well, temporary work authorization and the yes or not answer to the are you legally authorized to work in the USA. I am under a spouse NAFTA visa ( TD), and I just started sending my resume to some hospitals here in the midwest, but when filling the application I put yes to that question and I put my start date September 30 2007. ( not interview yet; I sent it two days ago) I did this because I have the VSC on habd and I will just need the Employment letter from the Hospital for me being able to fill out application for the NAFTA visa as employee this time. My hope when I was doing the application was to get hired and just ask for a Employment letter , then do the NAFTA visa application by myself, go to the US consulate in Mexico and ask for this type of visa, ahe HR at hosptnd get back to USA with the visa to show to HR at hospital. Therefore, the point is that I must tell the truth to them, so I unfortunately I make a mistake due to the impact of giving such information in that way,so should I let them know at the time of the interview or should I call them; even before getting the interview? and explained them this matter. As Mexican I can go for the NAFTA visa; which is something I do want to do at this point. However, since I've never ever done anything wrong, and I do not want to see my self in troubles just for making this choice. What should I do to make it up and not get in trouble? Thanks
