As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.
New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.
NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.
NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."
The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.
Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Just a quick question my agency told me that in the next 10 days the embassy will be releasing the oct interviewees, do you think this is acurate information for London?

I also need some clearing on something if anyone can help please. I have registered with CGFNS to do my verification for NYBON and when I called CGFNS last week they said I should hear from NY in a week and I have just today, but what they sent me was just the 2005 NCLEx Exam Candidate Bulletin . No letter , nothing? Is that how they do things in NY. I have just assumed that its their way of saying I am approved to take the NCLEX and gone on to pay my fee with PEARSON VUE.
In short , should I expect some more correspondence from them?

If NY sent you the bulletin, it means that you have met their requirements, now all you have to do is contact Pearson-Vue for your exam. There is usually a letter, but sometimes it comes in a separate envelope.

I would be thrilled, I just booked and paid for flight to Phoenix 17th Oct to house hunt etc as thought I was safe for oct. IF I get an interview for OCT I will be thrilled, excited and over the moon but I was under impression you got more notice.

my friends suggested to take the NEW MEXICO BON for NCLEX exam because the processing for our eligibility is fast. my question is, if i'm going to take the NM BON then i will work in maryland, do i still need a reciprocity? Considering that new mexico and maryland are members of the compact state?
then, what is the meaning of COMPACT STATES? thank you

I have printed out all forms for NY.My school of Nursing is now closed (as it was part of the health service and as you know all nurse training here is at academic establishments)but records are held at a local University.I have put my nursing school down as one attended but obviously they will need to contact University for transcripts etc.I have added note on form advising this and put address. Do you think this is OK?
Other thing is will they contact the Nursing and Midwifery Council to verify current registration because doesn't seem to be anywhere to put this info except maybe section 11.

New Mexico still requires a credentials evaluation...........
Compact state license is only good for you if you have a legal residence in New Mexico and maintain it. This type of license was set up for nurses that live on the border between two states, or for travel nurses. If you are going to be living in Maryland, then a license in New Mexico will not work for you. What you need is actually called an endorsement, that is what you would apply for. Whcih involves getting a separate license for Maryland. If you decided t wrok in another state that was a compact state after you were living in Maryland, if you were not going to keep an apt or house in Maryland, then you would need to get another license in that state.
It is your chpice where you wish to apply thru. I still recommend NY. It is your choice.
Actually CGFNS will be the ones doing the verifiying for NY. They are the ones that do all of the actual contacting for verifications of schooling, as well as licensure.
