Quick question to all the nurses out there regarding thank yous

Hello all,

To summarize briefly, I am coming close to the end of my second semester of an ADN program, actually we only have two more 12 hour clinical days left! We have been on a 60 bed med/surg floor at a local hospital for close to 16 weeks now. This clinical rotation started out a tad rough for me and I vented on here and everyone was so helpful with advice. Now I want to ask one more question. I haven't had a chance to work with all the RN's on the floor we are assigned to but the few I have had were EXCELLENT!! I really want to thank them and I was thinking of maybe just giving them each a thank you note. This would be acceptable right? I don't want to offend anyone I haven't worked with or seem ungrateful. I was also thinking of doing a little note to the nurse manager applauding the nurses who helped me. I'm sure they rarely get thanked from people let alone their nurse manager. What do you guys think? Am I being too cheesey? What would you think I could do to show my appreciation appropriately? Should I do a personal note to each in addition to a note to the nurse manager?

These nurses have had the "pleasure" of having students on the floor 7 days a week! Monday/Tuesday RN students from a local university, Wednesday/Thursday another section from my college, Friday/Saturday my group, and Sundays an LVN group. Sheesh!!! So even after all these days bombarded with students the majority are really pleasant even though I know how burdensome we can be. My classmates think I am nuts for wanting to do this but I believe they need to be shown appreciation in another way rather than just a verbal "thanks". Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

What a perfectly lovely idea! I'm sure all the nurses would appreciate it.

So you think both a note to the nurse and to the manager or just to the nurse?

I'd write one note addressed to the entire floor. In it, you can specifically name the nurses who were especially helpful. If you'd like a job on the floor when you graduate, I'd send a thank you specifically to the nurse manager and be sure to mention "I had a great experience during this clinical on your floor. I hope you'll consider me for any available positions in the future."

Good point Ashley! Thanks for your input!

Thank you notes are always welcome. They make people smile, even those who happen to come onto the unit and read them, without being ones who were thanked!

Do write the notes, both to the nurses and to their manager. The one big note is a good idea too, so no one feels left out.

Great! Thanks guys!

I agree with Wispera - the specific nurses, nurse manager, and floor. very thoughtful of you. :)

As a fellow student, I think that a heart felt thank you note expalining how they impacted you and what they meant to you would be something they would cherish until their dying day......just my thought :)

true. Your appreciation, verbal or written, shows your interest in working with them. More chances of getting hired ^_^
