Hi dafishman, I failed the nclex may 2014. I didn't study at all because I planned to study for two weeks after school ended (4/28) and then take the exam. well two days after school ended my mother fell into a coma that was majorly misdiagnosed so I was distracted to say the least and they wouldn't let me postpone my test due to the family emergency.

So about two and a half months later I began studying when my mom started waking up and did the following:

1. Read the Saunders book and answered all the questions (except four chapters in the pedi because I was running out of time)

2.Purchased the Saunders NCLEX study cards and re-reviewed until I got at least 90% correct for each section. there are about 1200-1300 cards.

3. Purchased only qbank because i couldn't afford the whole package. I spent $299. I did Kaplan qbank until I consitently hit low 70s which was the last two weeks of studying. Took one Kaplan test before reading Saunders. Then after reading Saunders I did Kaplan Qbank. I did Qbanks up to the night before my 2nd exam. My first Kaplan score was 49%. I did a total of 775 questions. I didn't finish all of them and my overall avg was 60%.

4. watched Michael/David? Linares videos on topics I was unfamiliar with

5. Bought the Amazon Memory Pharm Cards and reviewed meds (they made it so easy). I read this after reading Saunders and kept reviewing until i knew the indications, side effects, precautions and indications for each drug.

6. Purchased La Charity and did the first ten chapters or so and the Emergency Chapter until I consistently got over 80% in each chapter. I did this a week before my 2nd exam. (after Saunders)

7. I did a few nclex 3500 quizzes towards the end because in the beginning of studying I got scores in the 40s but towards the end 70s and 80s. I did this after I was done with Saunders.

8. Reviewed that 35 pg pdf floating around on this website two times after all my studying (and the morning of the test which was good because two things i forgot about i reviewed and it was on the test)

9. Reviewed the Kaplan Strategies book before reading Saunders.

10. read a pharm review pdf that I could email you after reviewing pharm cards.

I probably did a total of 3800-4000 questions before I took the test a second time.

I took my exam Thurs 9/4 and the second it shut off at 75questions i knew I passed even though I had no idea what was going on with my answers. I got my quick results today and passed. My study plan may seem like overkill but I learned so much and am grateful that I did this and I know my patients will appreciate it. I would not have passed without doing all this (esp Saunders book and study cards, Kaplan Qbank, memory pharm cards, LaCharity and Linares video).

I'm in a direct entry NP program so I had to pass this round before Sept classes started (today) or I would have to postpone my matriculation for my last year in the program to next year. If I can help with anything please let me know. I can even copy and paste some of my Qbank scores and send them to you if that will help.

You can do this!!!

I'm not sure if this will help but at the time of studying I was still visiting my mother everyday in the hospital 6-24hrs a day (I would sleep over a few weeks at a time to monitor her because there were major issues with the 1st and 3rd hospital) so time was luxury that I didn't have much of but I snuck in this studying while working 30hrs/wk, attending summer classes for my program. Getting more than 4-5 hours a sleep while studying was a gift some days. Taking care of someone is hardwork and its admirable that you're there for your daughter. Again, please let me know if i can help.

CEPJ,

Your dedication is amazing. Taking care of your mom, being there for her, studying, working, classes, just amazing.

Hard work certainly pays off!

Hey Dusky,

Yup, I was in the PN, 1st time for ANY review. I did the online one, not the live one. I took all 3 q reviews. I watched every video, maybe 20. I printed out hundreds of pages. I phoned them numerous times telling them I failed and would like a refund. Left messages, no one has ever returned a call.

Sent emails (have ticket #), they answered once stating I didnt finish the course (which is crap) and they immediately said to respond and state I wanted remediation.

I wrote back stating I didnt want remediation, I wanted a refund. I also told them to please tell me what I supposed "didnt complete". Have never had a response from that point on.

Gave them more than enough time. Monday called capital one and got the ball rolling on my end.

I just think its sad you have to jump through these hoops to get a refund that they promise in black and white.

I received my failed paper yesterday breaking down my categories. I know I need to fax this over I dont have a scanner. But its pretty hard when you cannot reach anyone. I tried for 3 days to get a live person, whatever option you could think of went to a recording. Just incredible that they dont have live people, its like they went on vacation and never told anyone!

On a side note, my failed paper stated 4 near passing, 4 below passing. I definitely need some work..............

FYI if you can email the letter, there are several smart phone apps that can convert photos into PDFs.

IMHO want to bet that very few candidates actually meet the criteria for refund or remediation? They might be stalling because they don't know what to do. No excuses for them though it's been enough time, hopefully your CC can intervene and get you the refund you deserve.

At least now with the report you can create a targeted study plan. Perhaps one of Kaplan's in person programs will be better suited?

Hi,

Thanks for the info!

I spoke to capital one today, they have reversed the charge and my account has been credited the 250.00. If they try to re-charge it, capital one will charge it back and then block them.

I am going to update my other thread in regards to this.

The kaplan live in person is roughly 1.5 hours to 3 hours away. That wont work for me in my current situation or I really would have tried for that one. I think the live one with 14 hours and then access to everything should help me.

Quite the cautionary tale in trusting Hurst's guarantee promise! You can bet I'll remember this when my time comes. It really stinks that you have to fight for money that's rightfully yours.

Hi all,

Just signed up. 108/month. Got some orientation things to do they said before the live classes Monday. I will make a new thread detailing my Kaplan journey that way others can get a feel and ask questions and get an UNBIASED review!

I want to thank everyone who has made such positive comments and who has given me advice. Thank you.

Brutal critiques from someone that has never sat for a professional exam. Chime right in , when you are qualified.

She's absolutely right though..

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I live in California, where we don't have access to quick results. I took my nclex pn sep 5 friday. I don't think I did well on my test. I wasn't sure of my answers. :/ The computer shut off on the 85th question and I'm sure I answered the last question correctly. I'm really nervous. I hope I passed, but I will have to wait 2 weeks for my results. Please pray for me. And any advice???

Thanks.

I took mine on the 4th. No one thinks they did well on the NCLEX. I still remember going in in shock and leaving in shock. My computer stopped at the 85 question as well, like you I know I got my last question right. I just went home got something nice to eat and did something different, hung out with friends etc. Then my friend pushed me to try out the new PVT trick. I did it and got the "good popup" and was glad. As of now i'm just working and hanging out with friends.

There is no point in stressing over it, relax there is nothing you can do now to change the results of the test.
