Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

Hi!! I am going to be applying for the Feb 2013 Cohort and myself want to start in the OR. As of right now I am a LVN finishing up my RN soon this December. Do you know how much spots were open for the OR? I do plan on going to the open house on the 16th and would really really love to get my resume into the hands of the OR personnel. Also, how did the interview process go? Was it just one interview or did it consist of three? Sorry for the bombard of questions but just wanted heads up on how to make myself stand out other than open house and placing my resume in the hands of the manager! and Congrats I hope everything went well for you!

Is anyone has any tips on the Seton Versant program I would appreciate it. I applied last month and have not heard anything yet. I am hoping to go to the open house and get some FaceTime. If anyone has any information about what they did to stand out or what Seton looks for, please send it my way...Thanks!

I applied for the February cohort as well. While I have yet to heard form HR--would love to know if anyone has--I did hear back from the Versant contact via voicemail and email. She stated that even after the complete application packet is received, there is one person who reviews the information before it goes on to HR. Since the last 2 cohorts had around 900-1000 applications, I anticipate that hearing from HR may take a while...unless...you heard from HR already?...and are waiting for the next next step? If that is the case...I should be worried. Lol.

Anyhow, about the open house. Is there a sign-up form for it? I did not see it posted anywhere and wanna think that there was a sign-up form on the website for the last one. Either way, I plan on being there as well. Best of luck to you!

oh my gosh, please forgive the typos!

Okranurse-

I have not come across any sort of form to sign up for the open house. I know some open houses are invite only, but this one doesn't appear to be. I would want to attend, but I am hoping to received some sort of info from HR prior to making arrangements since I am out of state. How long has it been since you applied and/or your application was considered complete (references and all)? I really hope I am considered in the running since I would love to be a part of Seton.

Also, do you know how many positions they are filling for the Feb 2013 cohort?

I don't graduate until Dec 2012, but since my family was moving to Austin this past summer I had started to look for jobs early--so I am kind of in the same boat as you. Although, I booked my airline ticket already since the price went up a little and I didn't want to pay too much. Either way, at least I will get a visit with my family.

It was at that time that I saw an online form for the October 2012 cohort inviting them to sign up for the open house. It may be that they have limited slots, but I don't know for certain. And if you do a Google search, you will see that there is a form they have developed for the Feb 2012 cohort--I assume it will be posted later?

I applied the within the first week the application period had begun. I had technical issues, and call a voicemail back within 2-3 days and probably got a voicemail back returning my phone call asking about whether they received all materials within a week.

If it helps to relieve any anxiety, I looked back at some of the old posts for last year's Feb cohort, and it seems that they all started getting the emails from HR stating that they had been "reviewed" and forwarded to HR with further directions by end of September. If the same pattern holds true, applicants should start to hear form HR by the end of next week.

I don't know how many positions are being filled. Whenever the Versant representative calls, I am usually in class and never have the opportunity to ask those types of questions. If I ever get through--the line is always full for me--I will be sure to ask though. If you happen to hear, please post ; )

seriously...my typing is not usually this bad, LOL.

Hey Guys!

I also applied seconds after the link was open for Feb Cohort. I talked to the GN office and their assistant told me around 85-90 spots will be available but not sure within what departments. She said average there are close to 1000 applicants. My application has been complete and I have yet have heard from HR but I assume it will take awhile as well.

A friend who has been accepted into Seton Versant program said do try your best to attend the open house. He said 75% of the candidates who attended open house received interviews. First impression counts! The open house will be set up like a career fair. He said first 30 minutes is a presentation of what to expect and all available position for hiring. The last part is where we get into a room full of tables and booth set up with different department and their hiring managers.

So far that is all I know and information I can share and whomever hears anything from HR please share and let us know so we can get a time line of what's to come as well!! Good Luck everyone :)

Thanks ktlam! You provided some great info! It is much appreciated!

no prob!! we are all in the same boat!!! I signed up for open house around 3. What about you?

I also signed up for the open house. I signed up for the "11" time slot, but wonder if they meant 1pm. Could have been a typo because it says the even will be 1-5. The confirmatio email was weird too, did you get errors in that auto-reply as well?

Okranurse-I was just going to message you about the sign up since we mentioned it the other day, I'm glad you are on and were able to sign up.

I signed up for the 11am as well.

Thanks, BotoxBaby! Yeah, I was going to do the same, but I saw that you had had this conversation where ktlam mentioned it so I figured you were good to go. Good luck at the open house! Kinda sounds like speed dating, but with managers, if I am picturing this correctly.
