I think I work at the only hospital that pays straight time in pa. No holiday time, extra pay, nada nothing! If you work perdiem you get double pay though!
That does not seem right. The loyal employees who work there full time do not get rewarded but the prediem employees do. I understand why they would pay the perdiem people extra but it does not seem right not to take care of the other employees also.
Night nurse here, yup worked last night and have to again tonight---can't sleep must check allnurses.com:D
My hospital pays time and a half from 0500-0001 on the 4th--they just started paying holiday pay this year so though it favors the day shift it is still a step in the right direction. (most holidays are paid for the full 24 hour clock not sure why this one is different.)

Hello everyone... I have a question. I'm working tomorrow (the 4th of July). It's my first day working a holiday, so I'm not sure if it's time and a half, or is double time? I'm from California (if that helps). Is this a hospital decision? a state law? a federal law? does anyone know which one it is??
It is going to be at time and a half, they are not paying double time any longer as they used to do. If you work a 12 hour shift and do not have blended rate as your hourly, then the last four hours could be double since they are normally 1 1/2 times on a routine day.
Just check with what is in the handbook that you were given by HR and it also depends in your facility is covered under a union contract as well.
