question re suit

How bad is it to wear the same suit to a second interview? Its blue, so will be obvious.

I got past the first interview, and was invited back for a second one and have nothing else to wear. I am oddly shaped and petite and spent 5 hours in the mall last night trying on every suit I could find and ended up with nothing even remotely suitable. I am ready to pull my hair out. I typically need to get things tailored because of my height and shape and due to the holiday and short notice, I am stuck.

How bad it is? Will they hold it against me? Do you notice what people are wearing? Would you

1. wear the same suit

or

2. wear a less dressy pair of black pants and button down shirt that is a bit too big with no jacket

Second interview can be a little more dressed down.

If your black pants are work-appropriate slacks and look okay, wear those with a nice (different) shirt.

Alternatively, wear the pants from the blue suit again, but lose the jacket and wear a different shirt.

If the shirt you have looks okay, wear that...but if it is noticeably poor fitting, you'll need to find a new shirt. Much easier than a whole new suit though!

Thank you, everyone! I am considering wearing the same skirt, new blouse , and a sweater instead of the blazer. Is that dressy enough? If not I'll wear the same suit. I feel better knowing it's not that unheard of. I'm so used to scrubs! I hate dressing up! I have no sense of style at all.

This will be totally fine! The second interview is likely gonna be mostly different people anyway so they won't know :)

Wear the suit -- if you don't have a different blouse, wear a nice scarf to take the attention away from your blouse. I doubt anyone will notice.

I doubt anyone will remember or really care...I know I wouldn't if I was interviewing you!

Have you considered Goodwill? That way you won't have to drop a fortune on something, and if you need it adjusted it's not such a big deal? Just a thought..

I only have one suit, does for weddings, interviews and funerals. Have absolutely no need for multiple suits although I do own a dinner suit (tuxedo) for those very special occasions.

When I interviewed all I was interested in was had the person made a bit of an effort. If they are more interested in your clothes than you stay away from them.

I would wear the blazer, not a sweater. Changing your blouse is enough. Don't worry.

Got the job! Thank you to those who were genuine and helpful. I appreciate you!

Awesome and congrats!

Interesting enough, I would have said wear the same suit! In my other life of working in the theater world, I have worn the same thing to an interview or an callback from an audition because I know they see so many people but my outfit may be the way I am remembered. I once got a job in the theater admin world because of this vintage day dress I wore (that interviewer told me specifically that I didn't need to wear a suit to the interview). They told me I was "cute dress woman" and that really stuck in their minds. Hey, whatever works, right? ;)
