Question RE posts by student nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello all! I would like to say first that I really enjoy this forum. I have learned so much about what is ahead of me, some things are scary, some exciting. I do not make a habit of posting in the General forum, unless I am saying something general like my opinion on something non-nursing related.

I am curious as to whether any posts at all by student nurses are bothersome to some of you, or is it only when non-nurses post about nursing practice matters? The last thing I want to do is offend anyone on here, especially since I hope to be a more active part of the discussions when I do finally join the nursing world. If it is bothersome or offensive for us students to post anywhere outside the student forums, I understand and will make sure to keep my posts confined to that area.

Thanks! :)

Ok, I would like to just state that if the "younger, greener" students would STOP becoming so defensive at the drop of a hat AND STOP writing in text speak with the use of idioms such as, "ya know"......I for one, would take them a whole lot more seriously!..................."ya know"?

I mean, really, how old are they???

Please try to act/speak/type with some sort of maturity about yourselves!, ya know!

Hard to take someone seriously when they talk like the lolcats.

So true, ya know!:p

wow....because i said "ya know"???? and if you are quoting me, please make sure you quote correctly. i never said i was younger than you. this is just unbelievable. and i dont even know what lolcats is. how very unfortunate that with all of your experience, you are unwilling to help out. i was actually told by a veteran nurse to come to this forum if i ever got stuck and needed help. what a mistake. how very sad. i havent experience an unintelligent nurse or nursing student yet. you wouldnt take me seriously because i said "ya know"??? i didnt realize this forum was so strict. im just trying to work through a case study and got stuck on something. im glad i will never be in clinicals and have you assigned as my nurse. how unwilling you are!!! also glad your patients dont see this! very disappointing that one nurse was willing to stick with me and help me work through this. why did you not address any of the other things i said? and before i start correcting someone's speech, maybe you should check some of your fellow veteran nurse's posts!!! lots of lols there, ya know????

now- i am done. this is just a waste of time. i need to finish my homework. thanks to the nurse that helped me. also- thanks to the rest of you too, because i now know exactly the nurse i dont want to become.

I was not speaking of you specifically, actually, that's why I did not quote your post....but of the many students who seem to think that the use of text speak and idiomatic language is appropriate when asking questions. Especially when they are questions relating to homework.

And please try to refrain from dragging out that old "nurses eat their young" warhorse.....the veterans will just laugh at you...it's just so overdone.

well, you are a perfect example of it! if the shoe fits. and i did not use idiomatic language while asking a question about my homework. thanks though. like i said before, thanks for all your help. and laugh all you want. up until now, i havent had any negative experiences with any veteran nurse. so kudos to you being my first. oh- and your "posse" too. since you seem to be an english instructor as well, maybe you should look up the definition of a bully. maybe that old adage seems so overdone in your opinion because people say it to you so often.

OMG

Honey, good luck. Please calm down and accept well-meaning help.

It's a full moon. Let's just all take a break and come back tomorrow, refreshed and happy.

thanks, but im calm. i accepted help from one nurse. she was helpful. just dont know what other well- meaning help you are referring to? everyone else was more interested in critiquing my english. two words....apparently when you join this forum you need to know exactly how it works right away. it was my very first post. thanks.....

Wow, I sure did not mean to start any arguments with my OP. I completely understand all of the specific issues that student nurses post about that are very frustrating. I have never posted in such a way, and I do not intend on giving any opinions on anything nursing related until I have the training to give an educated opinion.

As far as the homework situation goes, I promise not to try to get any of you to do my work for me. If I have homework that I can't figure out, I will post in the Student Assistance forum. :D

A couple of people stated that they ignore student nurses altogether. I am curious as to whether that applies to any posts, or only when they try to give opinions/judgments on nursing issues that they know nothing about.

I appreciate all of the feedback from everyone!

Do as you see fit.

I pretty much ignore student posts...sorry. When I start a thread about an issue/post about an issue, I want to hear back from experienced nurses, not people who want to be nurses, pre-nursing students or nursing students. The homework issue is especially irritating.

I totally respect your opinion, but I would like to clarify something. Do you dislike it when student nurses post about any topic, or only about topics that they can't possible know enough about to comment. For example, say you posted about a really bad day you had, and I replied with something like "I am so sorry you had such a bad day! Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Hugs!" is that something you would want to ignore as well?

I only ask because those are the types of things that I say when replying to a post. I never give opinions on subjects that I am not knowledgeable about, and I don't think anyone should. I don't, however, feel that the students should feel completely excluded from all discussion outside of the student forums, as long as we stay away from homework and opinions and judgments about matters on which we are ignorant.
