I have an iPad2 and I love it. However, I haven't really figured out how to make the most of it for school. Can you guys tell me the best note-taking and reference apps? I'd like to have note-taking apps that can record lectures and take dictations. Thanks guys!!

OK, so I called the admissions counselor today to find out how many points one can earn with a TEAS score of 88% (out of a possible 10). She told me that an 88% earns 10 POINTS!! That plus the 4 bonus points for the A in A&P I, I have a total of 14 out of a possible 16 points. Since the cutoff will be between 10 and 12 points, that means...I'M IN!!!! YAAAAYYYY!!! I am so incredible psyched about this! I was sure that I wasn't going to get enough points since I only qualified for one of the bonus categories, but it turns out that my ridiculous amount of studying for the TEAS totally paid off. All I can say is WOO HOO!!!

Good evening all! I hope I am posting this in the correct place. I am trying to do all I can to up my chances of landing the job that I want when I become an RN. I am taking the NAI class beginning in January. My intention was to get an NA job at Moses Cone in Greensboro, NC (which is where I ultimately want to end up as an RN). The only problem is, I know how difficult it can be to get a CNA job at a hospital with no experience. I was thinking that my chances might be improved if I start volunteering up there. Maybe I will be able to do some networking and show my initiative to management while I am there, but I don't know if I will even get to meet the people I would need to talk to if I am volunteering. Does anyone have any tips? Do you guys think this is a good idea?

You are not alone in your thinking. In fact, all of the nursing programs in my area DO require NAI certification to be accepted. I start mine in January and I can't wait to start working as an NA to get the much needed experience!

If you need the certification as a prereq for RN school, then no, you cannot challenge to get into school. If you just want the certification and it is not a requirement for your RN school, then you can challenge. I asked the same question at my information session for my school! I hope that helps.

Thank you! Even though I am still a student, I also get a bit irritated at the same things that you and many others do. I thoroughly enjoy productive, adult conversation, and that is often lacking in some of my fellow students' discussions. Believe it or not, I usually ignore them as well. For me, it's not so much the fact that they are students (hey, that's what I am!) It is just the overall tone and content that get to me. Overall, though, I think this is a wonderful place to learn and get an idea of what lies ahead for me. I'm all about preparation! :)

I totally respect your opinion, but I would like to clarify something. Do you dislike it when student nurses post about any topic, or only about topics that they can't possible know enough about to comment. For example, say you posted about a really bad day you had, and I replied with something like "I am so sorry you had such a bad day! Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Hugs!" is that something you would want to ignore as well? I only ask because those are the types of things that I say when replying to a post. I never give opinions on subjects that I am not knowledgeable about, and I don't think anyone should. I don't, however, feel that the students should feel completely excluded from all discussion outside of the student forums, as long as we stay away from homework and opinions and judgments about matters on which we are ignorant.

Wow, I sure did not mean to start any arguments with my OP. I completely understand all of the specific issues that student nurses post about that are very frustrating. I have never posted in such a way, and I do not intend on giving any opinions on anything nursing related until I have the training to give an educated opinion. As far as the homework situation goes, I promise not to try to get any of you to do my work for me. If I have homework that I can't figure out, I will post in the Student Assistance forum. A couple of people stated that they ignore student nurses altogether. I am curious as to whether that applies to any posts, or only when they try to give opinions/judgments on nursing issues that they know nothing about. I appreciate all of the feedback from everyone!

From what I understand, they are going to have a HUGE wake up call when it comes to paperwork. I have spent a lot of time in medical facilities as a patient and I know that there is a ton of paperwork involved in nursing. I wish people would just stop being so judgmental. It really doesn't help anyone!

That all makes perfect sense to me. Actually, even though I am not a nurse yet, the issues you all have mentioned bother me, too. Especially when brand new grads give strong, rude opinions to a veteran. That would greatly offend me. I have noticed a lot of homework questions on here, too. I don't really understand why they are posting them here when there is a student assistance forum specially for that very thing! Sometimes I think people don't take the time to look at the different areas of this site and they just post everything to the General forum. Anyhoo...thank you for the clarification! :)

Hello all! I would like to say first that I really enjoy this forum. I have learned so much about what is ahead of me, some things are scary, some exciting. I do not make a habit of posting in the General forum, unless I am saying something general like my opinion on something non-nursing related. I am curious as to whether any posts at all by student nurses are bothersome to some of you, or is it only when non-nurses post about nursing practice matters? The last thing I want to do is offend anyone on here, especially since I hope to be a more active part of the discussions when I do finally join the nursing world. If it is bothersome or offensive for us students to post anywhere outside the student forums, I understand and will make sure to keep my posts confined to that area. Thanks! :)

Is it crazy that after reading ALL of these posts, I am still super excited to become a nurse?!? LOL Some of my family members think so.

I have been studying like CRAZY for the last couple of weeks. I have been so nervous about taking this exam. I am taking the class online, and the teacher cuts us absolutely NO slack. In fact, she makes it unnecessarily difficult at times. The midterm was no different. It was a computer exam, of course, and the way some of the questions were set up was ridiculous! For example, there was a section of questions where we had to label parts of a cell. There was a picture of the cell with letters pointing to different parts. No problem, right? Well, the first question was fine. Then the next one pointed to the nucleus, but instead of having one text box to type in your answer, there were 3??? When you put the mouse pointer over the other text boxes, they said Question # 241, Part 2 or 3. WTH???? Several were like that. So, for the nucleus, I thought maybe she just wanted us to put nucleus, nucleolus, nuclear envelope or something, so I did. But the next one pointed to a ribosme, but there were 2 text boxes! Soooo confusing. I sent her an email about it and told her about that and the other abnormalities in the exam. I sure hope there wasn't something going on that I just didn't understand! This wasn't supposed to turn into a rant, though. I am just so incredibly happy that it is done! :clpty:
