Question RE posts by student nurses

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello all! I would like to say first that I really enjoy this forum. I have learned so much about what is ahead of me, some things are scary, some exciting. I do not make a habit of posting in the General forum, unless I am saying something general like my opinion on something non-nursing related.

I am curious as to whether any posts at all by student nurses are bothersome to some of you, or is it only when non-nurses post about nursing practice matters? The last thing I want to do is offend anyone on here, especially since I hope to be a more active part of the discussions when I do finally join the nursing world. If it is bothersome or offensive for us students to post anywhere outside the student forums, I understand and will make sure to keep my posts confined to that area.

Thanks! :)

Heheh, I remember #4! Heaven forbid nurses should eat.

And on their break!!! Oh my!!

And on their break!!! Oh my!!

They probably don't get a break, thus they eat some measly chips and salsa so they don't pass out from hypoglycemia.

Today you are a student, tomorrow you may be a co-worker..you are more than welcome to ask questions! Ask away!

I think when it comes to asking questions there's a big difference between "here's the question give me the answer" and "here's the question, here's the rationale I've came up with but I'm still stuck on this tiny part but this is what I think it is - can anyone confirm/explain better?" One at least shows that you tried to find the answer.

I pretty much ignore student posts...sorry. When I start a thread about an issue/post about an issue, I want to hear back from experienced nurses, not people who want to be nurses, pre-nursing students or nursing students. The homework issue is especially irritating.

I know I will get flamed for this....but I am so with you on this...I started an entire post about 2 years ago entitled "where are all of the seasoned nurses?" and pretty much got hit with fruit and vegetables:)..but that's ok, I can duck and weave with the best of them.....

Just because your sister's husband's cousin's aunt is a CNA does not give you the authority to advise me on my 18+yr career in nursing!

Likewise, because you really, really want to go to nursing school, or once talked to a nurse in the check out line at Walmart does not give you the same........

or have been in nursing school for all of 15minutes and have just placed that stethoscope around your neck for the first time.....does not give you the license to give me advice on my career or problems I have been having, of which you could not possibly know a thing!

OP, here's a great example of what rubs most of us the wrong way:

This poster appears to have registered with AN.com just to ask a homework question.

Personally (as you can see in the post posted) I don't mind helping students at all... I was a new student and grad once... Now I have 17+ years under my belt and am a student (again - this time a Grad student) myself. I won't GIVE an answer straight out, but will talk them into finding the way to their own answer. Nothing wrong with that.

I've also found that without the knowledge of veterans, GNs are lost... and I've learned with the knowledge of GN's, a lot of veterans don't keep up with the new way of doing things, so vets and GNs really need each other.

I've gotten help from students - there are a lot of new techniques, new ways, new thought processes. If you think because you've been a nurse for x amt of years that a SN or a GN can't offer you assistance in anyway, you're loss. Sure, I understand there are certain things they can't know yet... but pretty limited. Of course, your prerogative, though :) I am sure a GN who works in the ICU (a place I stay far away from) could teach me a thing or two.

Guess being a nurse and a student is the best of both worlds! To each his own!

if u read on, i did give my thoughts.....i am new to this forum, and i did have some things narrowed down, but needed some help working thru it. i was just trying to give as much info on the subject as i had! i wasnt looking for someone to give me answers! i was asking to be pointed in the right direction. i was confused on a few things. ya know, the first week we were in nursing school, our instructor told us that nurses eat their young....now i know what she was talking about. if you are so knowledgeable, why wouldnt you want to help spread that knowledge on to someone more "green" than yourself. i've worked very hard to get to this point as im sure you have as well, but i guess you dont remember being just a measly nursing student feeling overwhelmed and needing some guidance. thanks for assuming that you know me!

that last post wasnt towards you, demylenated. i appreciate your help!!!

i just cant believe the people attcking me because i asked for some help....guess i turned to the wrong place! thanks again for your help and sticking with me to talk me thru it. i did get a diagnosis and interventions and goals!
