PVT question

Nursing Students NCLEX

I took the nclex on 6/2 and still haven't receive my result, so I gave in and tried the pvt. I got the "good" pop up after trying to reregister (yes, I hit submit after inputting my cc info). Is this a good indication I passed? Thank you

The PVT does work and I will tell you why. Some people do feel that they get a false "good pop-up," however you have to look deeper into the situation to figure out what's going on. I have seen many consistencies with the PVT. Those who have said that they received the good pop up right after their test and later found out they failed either ran out of time or had all 265 questions. In these cases you have to wait 24 hours for the exam to be scored a second time. You always have to consider the accuracy of the statement that someone is presenting. For instance, Pearson changed their system to where everyone gets taken to the CC page. Many people still to this day do not realize this, which they think they failed. Others think they have the good pop-up but in reality it said that their results were on hold, which is not the good pop-up. I had a friend call me in a complete mental breakdown because she said the PVT didn't work and she failed. I asked her some questions about what she did. A short time later her anxiety was relieved as I brought it to her attention that everyone goes to the CC page now.

In considering the accuracy of the information you are presenting, it's worth mentioning this inaccuracy. EVERYONE'S exam undergoes what you can call a "second scoring"; EVERY exam has a QA review at some point during the 24 hours following the exam. Not just those who ran out of time, not just those who got all the questions.

The reason people are told to wait 24 hours before doing the PVT (if it's their bound will and desire) is to allow time for the QA review to be complete. It seems to be the biggest margin of error is for those who do the PVT immediately (or an hour, or two, or...whatever) post NCLEX and get one pop up, but then a different one when they do it again after the 24 hour mark. Some people post about doing it over and over and over and over again, and then are surprised to find a different result at some point later on.

This happens regardless of the number of questions one receives. The ONLY thing that I have yet to see is someone who stops at the minimum number of questions (75 for RN, 85 for PN) and have THAT pop up be good initially and bad later, or vice versa. For those people, it seems pretty safe to say that whatever it is at the closing of the test it is likely to stay (IOW, haven't yet found someone who the CAT deemed competent in only 75 questions later be reviewed to be INcompetent--and vice versa). That much is anecdotal, true, but it's what I've noticed over time.

Many people insist on tackling the PVT without really knowing what it IS they are doing, LOL, so it's not uncommon to have to peel someone off the walls because they did it wrong and are freaking out as a result.

Can only go so far to help people not drive themselves insane, the rest is up to them.

Hello and thank you for the information. I appreciate your input but I honestly was already aware of that information. What I was referring to in regards to individuals that run out of time or go to all 265 questions is that their exam is not scored based on the 95% confidence interval rule and thus it is possible that their pass/fail status may change after the second scoring. For someone that passes or fails via the 95% confidence rule it seems that the second scoring is only a formality or quality check. Every time I come across someone who claims the PVT was inaccurate is someone who's test was scored with either the R.O.O.T rule or the maximum-length exam rule, which are applicable for those that run out of time and those who receive 265 question, respectively. Then there are other cases where people simply don't do the trick correctly and get an alternate message which may be due to an incorrect expiration date. In that case I personally view the situation as user error and not PVT inaccuracy.

I agree with you on most of your points. However, you are really wasting your time posting logical thoughts about the PVT. There's a group of people on this board that have made up their minds that it is a negative, waste of time and no more accurate than a magic 8 ball.

I thoroughly disagree on the matter.

I personally had a positive experience using the PVT, both before and after it changed, but that is just cast aside as dumb luck.

Yea I noticed that. For me and all my classmates that I talked to it worked just fine. I can see telling people not to completely rely on it, but to not give it any credit at all, I just don't understand.

is there anyone that did the PVT and got their cc processed, but actually did pass? if so then did you get your money back? I did this and mine was processed, i dont know if i passed or not, but i did put in an incorrect expiry date. i didnt think it would be processed if i put in a false expiry date....i'm so confused and devastated at the sametime!

If you passed you will NOT get your money back as you agreed not once but twice that you would not create a duplicate registration (which is what you do by attempting the pvt) and that there are no refunds. You cannot check again and must either wait for quick results (if your state participates) or BoN to release your results. If you passed you donated $200 to Pearson Vue.

Yes a small minority have donated $200 to Pearson Vue and in fact passed, most attempted the pvt before the QC check completed at or before 24 hours post exam.

Even if I put in an incorrect credit card expiry date they will still process it?

You said you received a receipt therefore you were processed and charged a non-refundable $200.

DO NOT ATTEMPT AGAIN UNLESS YOU WISH TO TEMPT THE FATES AND DONATE ANOTHER $200 Yes, it's possible to process with a slightly off expiration date as people make errors. It's presumed you wish to make a purchase when you submit twice.

You can't attempt the pvt as it is a guaranteed false positive since you already paid for a second registration

Actually it's 360 in canadian...what do u mean by a guaranteed false positive? That due to being able to register and receiving a receipt I have indeed failed?

No if you try again it will give you the "good pop up" because you registered again. No one has "calculated" the reliability of the pvt for Canadian candidates. Quick results are not available in Canada however most Canadian candidates have reported receiving results from the college of nurses via email in a week or less.

Determining if you passed or failed because you were charged a non-refundable $360 within hours of completing your NCLEX would be nothing more than a random guess.
