Hello everybody,
Sorry to bother you, but I'm seriously considering moving out to the States from England with my young family for a more open space / less claustrophobic existence than the UK, and in particular to the mid west. I am an RN with 18 years experience (mostly psych but with a little surg), are there many potential psych employers in Wyoming, and are there many positions for psych nurses as (unlike ER, CCU, Med, Surg) I never see them advertised in the UK nursing journals?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Be lucky,
Chris.
Ooops sorry,
I meant Colorado.

I am an LPN working for the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City Missouri in the psych ward and I sure that there are many other places that you might be able to find work!

I don't know about Colorado, but there are plenty here in Oklahoma. You can often access classified ads through a newspaper's web site; you might try looking that way. You could also contact hospitals in your target area directly; you can find out which ones are in a city by searching for the city's website or looking in the internet yellow pages.
Good luck! It is nice to have lots of breathing room. But it does make for lots of driving (and public transport out this way is iffy). Colorado is GORGEOUS.
Thanks to you both for your replies, it is very kind of you. By the way, what is an LPN?

An LPN/LVN is called a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse. We can do some of the tasks but not all of them. It also makes a difference if you are
IV Certified.

I work at the state hospital in Colorado(Fort Logan) and they are always hiring psych nurses. But, in order to work there, you have to be an RN. However, if you have psych experience, you can be hired as a Mental Health Clinician which pays comparably to a LPN position. You would not be able to pass medications though.

Hi! I work at the psych unit at Boulder Community Hospital, and we have a small unit, so we aren't usually hiring. Right now I'm a Unit Coordinator and Mental Health Worker, which doesn't pay much but it is great experience if you are looking to work in psych. There are some bigger hospitals in Denver that I know also hire Mental Health Workers or Mental Health Clinicians, such as University of Colorado Hospital.
