Psych NP - USA, UND, EKU ?

I am attending EKU and so far, so good. I am half-way through the program and clinical rotations begin next month. I like the layout of the program. Most courses are 8 weeks in length with different start times. I don't know how it compares to other programs. The entire program is online with proctored exams. I will get into the real meat of the psych material spring semester. I have heard UND is very good. I would steer clear of USA based on many, many bad reviews I've heard over the past few years. If anyone has had a good experience with USA please correct me!

Thank you steel! USA is tempting due to the low cost and relatively short program/low credit hours. I haven't heard anything about UND before (good or bad), but did notice their program is 57 credits. I'm glad to hear you like the format of the 8 week classes at EKU - do you feel too rushed or is it just right? I would imagine if you don't like a class, you just have to power through the 2 months and then move on.....Another concern re. EKU is the program seems long - 3 years, going into a 4th year if you choose a summer start. Do you think this was designed for the full-time working nurse in mind?

I know you asked for students who are attending these programs, but I feel like if I don't echo what mtsteelhorse said about USA, it means I'm guilty. I applied there and the entire application/acceptance process was so disorganized. I also know people who graduated from their programs and they didn't like the experience either. Classes are disorganized, professors unavailable. Very little teaching at all. I don't expect everything to be spoon fed, but I go to school to be taught. I know one girl right now who has had an absolute nightmare getting preceptor paperwork finalized, on the school's part. She submitted it about a year ago with ALL required info from the preceptor themselves, so it isn't like anything was slacking on their part or hers. It was the school. No issues between state boards, etc. And yes, the hospital she was hoping to use is one of USA's "pre-approved" facilities list.

I am attending University of South Carolina. Not the psych program, but they have one. I'm only a semester in, but I've been pleased so far, and know countless current students further than me/alumni who are/were too. It's a bit more expensive than you were looking for, and I do understand that there have been some issues recently regarding clinical in certain states. It's a board thing that has come up, is what some NC friends told me.

I know you asked personal experience, but consider for what it's worth!

I am currently in the USA PMHNP program. If I had to chose a program again, I would not select this program.

Can you elaborate as to why you would not choose the program again? I am currently completing my FNP degree and wanted to do this program at USA as a post masters certificate. Look forward to hearing from you.
