Hi all,
Starting this thread before the Jan '22 cohort application opens up today (hopefully soon!) I have all the required documents ready to submit, patiently refreshing and hoping the link to apply pops up soon. Let's all connect and keep each other updated on our application process. Good luck to everyone! :)
Again, this was about breaking contract. Anyone know the deets?
mine is 39.78 plus a $4 diff, after re-negotiating but I have not opened and read and accepted--I have till next Friday. I'm better off at Cedars, especially with the 5k edu reimbursement per year vs 4k at Providence.
I'm awaiting my Santa Monica offer but I think it will be just as dismal as OC.
For those who got "float pool" congrats but that is basically being under the sword of damocles for an entire year at CNA/PCT pay. Float pool is great though, you'll get ten years of work in 1! Experience, right??? LOL
Who knows about breaking contract? Please reply! Thanks!

Yes, training is great, but I have a family to feed , loans and bills to pay and just can not afford that. I believe there are plenty of opportunities out there and you have to do what is best for you. Perhaps, this new grad program is better suited for someone that still lives with their parents and has not that many bills. For a parent like myself this will not work. Best of luck everyone!
Definitely understand where you’re coming from. I was offered a position that is offering me $52/hr as a new grad. It doesn’t have a new grad program but I will be getting trained for 6 months. I know I want a new grad program but did hear that Providence pays on the lower side so I accepted another offer. Like you said, we all have bills to pay and family to feed. I think in the end we will still get the training at whichever hospital we work at. Good luck to everyone!

correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that from other RNs, especially at HCA, that breaking a contract without paying penalty fees is completely possible but you'll just end up blacklisted from that company. Like HCA, Providence, is a huge hospital system across the nation, so you might want to consider this carefully. the general advice is to not take the offer if you're going to end up breaking it. it leaves a bad reputation on your end, and that's especially not good as a new grad who lacks experience.

I guess that's better, but still not great, and yeah float pool sounds awful for a new grad. For those of you who took float pool, think carefully! I took the first job I was offered and regret it, which is why I applied to the TIP program even though I'm already in an acute care position. Floating to multiple units without being able to get to know your co-workers well, knowing who you can ask for help when you're drowning sounds like they're setting you up to fail...
As far as breaking contract, considering we're all new to Providence no one here probably has a good answer. From what I hear the $ penalties to break new grad contracts are not really enforced, but I'm sure you will be blacklisted from being hired at Providence in the future. They can't force you to work, so I don't see why you couldn't accept the Providence job now and then tell them you found something else if you find a better position elsewhere. That is, assuming you're OK with never working at providence, which doesn't seem like a huge deal in LA/OC.

I've had a coworker who accepted st joes & then later took her acceptance back because she was offered a position at St. John's. There was no penalty for it!

That makes some sense. And that's sorta what I needed to hear. If my offer at St. John's is >6% my OC offer I'm certainly not even considering OC. We'll see. For those that didn't get an OC offer, well watch your email because one might just open up. And soon!
Best Wishes to all!

Sure blacklist me as a value-seeker but I'll bet a few years down the line and my NP is paid off by as much as $15K by a competing hospital system, Providence will will take me back with a 20k-30K new hire bonus to boot. The nursing shortage isn't even happening yet so boom... in about 2-5years. Who knows. Great time to me RNing regardless. Good Luck everyone!

I'm one of the people who hasn't heard anything yet from OC. But if they did make me an offer I would probably turn it down. $31 an hour is not enough to help me move and support myself in SoCal. I live in NorCal and the base rate here is more than the OT rate would be at Providence OC.

Yep. Up North is where the bounty is but SoCal is Socal. I can't stop cringing at this $44hr w/diff for OC. That's rough especially for those of us that took out 100k loans. Geezus. I've done the math 6 ways to Sunday and my calculator just keeps saying 404 Error. LOL

To be quite honest, I thought when someone mentioned $31 an hour, I thought it was a mistake. That is insulting low to someone with a BSN. $31 an hour for an RN in California is unacceptable. The cost of living is not all that much cheaper in SoCal than it is in NorCal. I hope they get the rates up for you guys down there, it just doesn’t make sense

Also I’m pretty sure someone offered them a $31 base rate with a $3 night shift differential for OC so a total of $34 an hour ?
