Hi all,
Starting this thread before the Jan '22 cohort application opens up today (hopefully soon!) I have all the required documents ready to submit, patiently refreshing and hoping the link to apply pops up soon. Let's all connect and keep each other updated on our application process. Good luck to everyone! :)

All the nurses I have spoken with who work 12s get paid OT for going over the 8 hours and when they go over 40 hours because it’s the law. Regardless of what job you work in California, as long as you aren’t salary

OT is a huge incentive for nurses, including California nurses. If anyone is telling you you won’t make OT over 8 hours work I would highly consider looking for work elsewhere

This source that you found does not say it’s specific to California. California has very SPECIFIC laws regarding OT that are different from other states. In California - it’s OT for over 8 hours and over 40 hours unless you are exempt. Nurses are not exempt employees

The closest offer I’ve read so far is Step Down at St. Jude, and then PCU.
Yes this is correct! I have a family friend who is a long-time St. Jude nurse and they said that step-down is the highest and most rare position to be offered as a new grad. More often than not, they only hire 1-2 new grads for step down each year and typically accept fellowship nurses instead cross training from other units. For ICU, you can only strictly be hired in as a cross trained nurse as well from the hospital or as an experienced nurse from elsewhere.
Also, for those who have received offers, have any of you tried negotiating your starting rate and which hospital was this at specifically?
I'm somewhat concerned/frustrated because I got offered my position on the phone yesterday and when I tried to negotiate my hourly rate since I get paid more at my current job now than I would there, they told me my starting hourly rate is non-negotiable as a new grad unfortunately. I'm skeptical that this isn't true and I saw someone on here mention that they renegotiated their hourly rate offer. Please help a gal out, thank you! ?

Most hospitals that have a schedule that is called “alternative workweek schedule”
here is the link where this is explained in detail according to CA Labor office
https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_OvertimeExceptions.htm
I wish we got paid overtime after 8hrs. That’d mean 24 hours of OT per pay period. If your hospital offers this that’s a heck of a deal.

How is that possible? I would love to reach out to the recruiter because my hands are itching to do so, but I’ll just wait patiently.
From what I saw personally, it seemed that they withdrew the initial application to the program to put you into a specific RN resident position as a new grad, if not float pool, according to some other folk on here.

I interviewed 11/4 for NICU, labor and delivery, and postpartum as my top 3 choices for providence holy cross and still have not heard back yet? My account still says "interview step scheduled" Is anyone in a similar situation? I am getting worried now
I also interviewed with postpartum as my top choice, but I also have not heard anything from that department or if they even hired anyone to be honest with you. I know it's a highly competitive position. Aside from those three, are you open to doing other positions as a new grad?

If what you are stating is true. Those hospitals will be facing a low suit soon enough ? nurses are not exempt from OT pay.
