  1. SCSU vs Metropolitan State

Which school do you think has the better reputation, better nursing program/faculty/education? I am currently dually enrolled at Metropolitan state, but TBH even with growing up in MN, I had never even heard of Metro state until I applied to ARCC's M...
  2. UMASS Amherst ONLINE RN-BSN?

Has anyone done this program? Were you in-state or out-of-state? I love that they have an accelerated bachelors program. I am done with my two-year in nursing in December and want to jump right into a bachelors program. To get it done in a year would...
  3. Allina or HCMC????

I have worked for Allina for two years and it is a great company. I don't work in the hospital so I'm not sure what it's like there- thiugh I will say that the location of Abbott is a bit of a deterrent- particularly if you work night shifts. But I l...
  4. WGU for BSN then where for NP?

Could you elaborate on the grading at WGU? I was considering their RN-BSN program...
  5. Stressed about grading scale

In my program, 92-100 is and A, 85-91.9 is a B and a C is 78-84.9. Anything less than 78 is failing. It it really is frustrating! Even med students have regular grading systems.
  6. Online nursing program stigma?

I'm not in an online program, but some of my classmates are talking about looking into an online RN-BSN program. I am wondering if there is a negative stigma to online BSN or MSN programs? How do employeers view it?
  7. Moving to Minneapolis, need suggestions!

I've lived in Minnesota/twin cities area most of my life and know it well. What are you looking for in terms of where you want to live? Safe neighborhood? Good schools? Lots to do (and what type- food, events, etc)? Quiet? Family friendly? Etc... Fo...
  8. Phi Theta Kappa - Haven't we all been invited?

I just received a letter from my school with an invitation to join PTK because of my academic performance. My husband thinks I should definitely join and that it will look good to future colleges and employers alike. Anyone else apart part of it? Th...
  9. Any Minneapolis/St. Paul folks out there?

I grew up in MN, and now work for Allina. I have been with them for two years and they are great. Abbott or United would be the two hospitals closest to Eagan within the Allina system, however there is also a great need for homecare nurses in Allina ...
  10. School/Life Balance - How Do You Do It???

It is hard, but I do agree that sometimes college is just hard in general (dependent on the degree, of course). I am a mother to a toddler, work PT (20 hours/week) at a clinic, and spend about 20 hours total in class or at clinical. Life is crazy - a...
  11. how many of you actually read all the chapters?

I read nearly all the chapters. We have so much assigned reading that while they request we complete all readings prior to lecture, I may have to prioritize reading and skim certain things to understand the gist of it well enough to get what I need o...
  12. Shoe Recommendations

Our school requires leather shoes for the reason the TheCommuter mentioned; they don't absorb spores/bacteria and are very easy to clean. Skechers also makes fully leather shoes.
  13. Best jobs for nursing students?

In your opinion, what are the best job options for nursing students? I have one classmate who is a pharmacy tech and it fits great with her schedule because she can work weekends or before/after class and it gives her some healthcare exp. I have hear...
  14. What backpack do you use?

Need a new one- obviously something pretty large and durable to get me through another three years! Recommendations?
  15. Hep B Booster

I had my hep b series about ten years ago, had the titer done for school and it was positive. I know with my school, if it's negative; you have to get the booster, then a titer Later on. But as long as you get the booster before starting the progra...
  16. HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

haha. I've been so busy with my summer courses to even think about it! I checked for the first time today since submitted the application and it says it's still under review. I'm not sure I'll get it. My EFC wasn't 0, but still low. My GPA is just ab...
  17. HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

I thought most didn't receive resonses until August, and some in September?
  18. HRSA 2014-2015 Nurse Corps Scholarship

Oooh I missed this thread. I had started one awhile ago and didn't get any replies - so I'm happy to see this one. First time applying for the HRSA - I'm going to be a sophomore this fall, I finished my first year of pre-rews (well, working on two ov...
  19. Sooooo much debt already

Given the amount of debt- I think if you are able to live with your parents rent-free or reduced-rent that will definitely ease the pain of debt! I don't think it's abnormal to graduate school with about 50k in loans. It may be "normal", though defi...
  20. Summer Class Questions

I think it's definitely possible if you manage your time correctly! I am doing two summer classes, I work PT and I'm a mother. But I know I can do it- I'm used to the intensity of summer classes, so I know what to expect. And thankfully one class is...
  21. I like being prepared and planning each individual hour of my life. As a working mother and student- it's essential to my success! I start the nursing classes this fall and made up a mock schedule, where I scheduled about 45-50 hours of studying out...
  22. It IS a lot of studying - but I'm doing A&P 1 and microbiology right now and I easily spend over 25 hours a week studying for just these two classes. I'm not someone who is "naturally smart" I work really hard to know the material, and I'm an A-s...
  23. Question for Mom's in Nursing School

Ihaven't actually starting the program (I will this fall) but I have a plan. My son will be in Daycare Monday-Thursday. I will work 10 hours on Monday, then spend about 2-3 hours at night for school work. Tuesday I will have 4 hours of classes, and s...
  24. Thank you so much!! This was more the answer I was expecting. I honestly never would expect to succeed in nursing school by only studying 10 hours a week. In just my pre-requisites alone, I study/do homework for over 25 hours a week (and I also get A...
