UMASS Amherst ONLINE RN-BSN?

Has anyone done this program? Were you in-state or out-of-state? I love that they have an accelerated bachelors program. I am done with my two-year in nursing in December and want to jump right into a bachelors program. To get it done in a year would be great.

I saw that the cost is about $15k for the whole program, does that apply for out-of-state students as well? It seems like a good program but I'd love to get some feedback from those who have done the program or are in it now. What was the admission process like? Was it hard to get into? How were clinicals set up?

I just started Pre-reqs out of state, but I am very interested in UMass Amherst for their RN to BSN online program. Would love to see some chatter on this topic!

I graduated from the UMass Amherst online RN-BSN in 2012, and I am happy to share some insight! I am in-state and in Western Mass. I had the plan to start right in as soon as I finished my ADN and I wanted to do the 1 year track. I honestly don't remember a ton about the application/admissions process, though I remember I found out in late April about getting in. So ultimately, I made sure I had all the pre-reqs done prior to graduating with my ADN (and that UMass knew these would be done). Classes start the first or second week of June. They are really flexible about switching to the 2-year track if need be (ie if work or life gets in the way and you need to drop a class). Now, I think things have changed a bit in the past couple years, but when I was doing the program, they had a lot of group projects. Again, I have heard there have been a lot of changes with regards to that so take this with a grain of salt: I was lucky enough to know two other women in my area who were completing the program and the professors encouraged group work with people in your area, so the three of us teamed up for every group project. There was a giant group project (i think with 8 or so people involved, a community assessment) which we had others added in which went ok, and we had one disaster where a girl was added into our group half-way through because her group abandonded her and we had to carry her on our shoulders. She was kicked out of the program shortly after because she ACTUALLY THREATENED THE PRESIDENT OF THE SCHOOL OF NURSING. I would get in touch with the admissions people and ask them how it would go as an out-of-state participant. Oh, and there aren't "clinicals" per say. We had a "physical assessment" class, which while I was there, we were asked to perform a full physical assessment of a family member or friend in front of a preceptor (that we had to find -or I suppose, if your preceptor was someone you work with, a patient at your job), and do a write-up of it, the preceptor was to grade it and submit it to the class professor. I think they may ask you to videotape your assessment and upload it now - that's how UMass Boston's online RN-BSN program does it. Let me know if you have other questions!
