  1. I've gone through the interview process and did a job shadow on Friday. They called me this morning and said they're doing my background and reference check... does anyone know how long these take? I assume that it depends on whether people answer th...
  2. Hi, I am pretty new here. I take my CNA state exam tomorrow (6/4) and am beyond nervous! I did really well in my class, finished with a 97% and received a 98% on my mock state test. I'm just wondering how accurate the mock state test is compared to t...
  3. Not an RN but could use some advice..

I am a new CNA and I have been interviewing for a CNA position at two different places...place #1, I would REALLY love to work at. This is my first choice. They pay well, have great benefits, and I really enjoyed my job shadow. I felt that the interv...
  4. Will I pass CNA if I miss 1 day?

it depends on your school... You have to have a minimum of x amount of hours. Some will allow you to make up the hours. I was able to miss 2 days but those hours had to be made up with hours in the nursing lab or extra course work/essay work outside ...
  5. what to do?

okay... so I had an interview on Monday at a place that I REALLY liked. Its close to home, amaaazing benefits, HUGE facility, but I'm not sure what the starting pay is... but I felt like the interview went REALLY well. They said that I should hear ba...

  8. RN student getting cert. for CNA

This is more or less what my cover letter and resume look like.... Because I had no healthcare work history, I kept it very simple and just put the name of my past employers with the dates that I worked there. Most places wouldn't even consider my ap...
  9. How to stop talking to old people like they're children

I haven't been in your specific situation but I do agree that there is a fine line there..... Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way. I think we associate that way of talking with children because we see it more often. Everyone has kids and we see ...
  10. Definitely not kidding yourself! Its never ever too late to follow your dreams!! I'm 28 and just started... I just got my CNA and am working on prereqs. There were students much older than myself in my CNA class who were working on getting their RN. ...
  11. That thought scares me! I hope they get this figured out! I would definitely contact the manufacturing company just to be sure of specifics but under no circumstances is it safe to have a resident in the air on a sit to stand.
  12. I completely agree with loriangel14. I'm assuming a sit to stand is the same as an EZ Stand... if thats the case, then yes, you're doing it wrong. The straps should go under the arms and around the belly. There should also be a strap to go around the...
  13. oops!
  14. Skill testing questions

Our examiners talked through our entire written test... mine walked out of the room when I was doing my hand washing skill... but the other one seemed pretty tough on the other test takers. We had a piece of wood to use as our "call light" and used p...
  15. wow, I didn't have to have most of that for my class... but you should be able to go like a nursing/scrub/uniform store or medical supply store and they usually have that stuff.... as far as quality vs price... I say you get what you pay for... We we...
  16. Took my exam this morning and passed with flying colors! Looking back, I don't even know why I was so nervous! Seriously, for those of you who haven't taken your certification test yet, CHILL. Don't get nervous the way I did. I couldn't even sleep la...

Thanks, I really hope I get this one! Its #1 on my list!
  19. CNA starting wage?

The place that I did my clinicals is the highest paid place in the state, starting their CNAs out at 15.15 an hour.... but thats definitely not the norm and doesn't include benefits.
  20. I have an interview this afternoon...

I did pay attention... Thank you everyone! I went to the interview and she really didn't ask me very many questions, just asked if I had any. I felt it went pretty well but it was my first CNA interview, so I'm not sure what the "norm" is. She said ...
  21. I have an interview this afternoon...

I have no experience other than my clinicals..... I've somewhat dealt with difficult patients but, normally, when something happened, the Aid would step in and take care of the situation.
  22. book required for CNA 1 course.

My book was $60 used from my school's bookstore.... but you may have a completely different book than I did. Don't worry about passing, most of the stuff you learn just becomes common sense to you. Good Luck!
  23. Officially a CNA!!

    Congrats!!! I take mine tomorrow!
  24. Did you pass or fail the state exam the first time?

Thanks everyone, this makes me a little less nervous. I just kept seeing a lot of posts about people failing and I think that got me worked up. I've been going over my skills all morning and only had a few minor steps that I missed... tonight I'm goi...
  25. Did you pass or fail the state exam the first time?

Thanks, I'm really not tooooo concerned about the written portion... but the skills portion is killing me. I feel pretty confident in my skills... I know I won't forget any of the "bolded" steps. I'm just so scared I'm going to forget some "little" s...
