Hi, I am pretty new here. I take my CNA state exam tomorrow (6/4) and am beyond nervous! I did really well in my class, finished with a 97% and received a 98% on my mock state test. I'm just wondering how accurate the mock state test is compared to the real thing? Also, for those of you who did fail when you took the state exam the first time, how did you do in your class? What was your mistake that caused you to fail? (If you don't mind answering)
I feel confident that I know all the skills but I've seen so many people say that they failed the first time... I'm just wondering, did these people feel the same way going in?
Any last minute advice you can give me??

I passed the first time. I just took my examination on Saturday. my advice know all your steps for each skill especially the ones that are the major fail points. As long as you know your steps and know what your doing you will be fine! Don't let your nerves get to you and focus on caring for your resident/patient while doing the skills.
as for the written part, it was super easy it also takes some common sense too.
Thanks, I'm really not tooooo concerned about the written portion... but the skills portion is killing me. I feel pretty confident in my skills... I know I won't forget any of the "bolded" steps. I'm just so scared I'm going to forget some "little" step so I'm spending my entire day today practicing and will be getting to bed early tonight to get some good rest before my early morning. I'm just SO nervous! Is it normal? I don't want to set myself up for failure because I'm so nervous!

I passed on the first time and I was sooo nervous. As long as you did well in the clinical portion of your class you will do fine on the test. I missed some of the smaller steps but I still passed.

I passed first try. Written and practical. Didnt get nervous. I just looked at it this way : I've lived and breathed this for the last four weeks straight and had no issues, the state exam is no different. And it really wasn't. You've got this! Good luck!
Thanks everyone, this makes me a little less nervous. I just kept seeing a lot of posts about people failing and I think that got me worked up. I've been going over my skills all morning and only had a few minor steps that I missed... tonight I'm going to make my fiance let me practice on him LOL

Unfortunately I failed my skill portion of the CNA exam - I hadn't wiped the patients mouth after I fed him and I wasn't faced towards him while I was feeding him. BUT, I retook it a few weeks later and passed just fine...and recently I just passed my NCLEX - so life goes on if it doesn't work out. :) GOOD LUCK!!!

I just took both today for the first time and passed both even though I ran out of time in the middle of my last skill which was changing an occupied bed because I got too focused on trying to make it perfect, but thankfully I had done enough steps correctly in my previous skills that the examiner was able to pass me. Other than the skill I mentioned I also had to do radial pulse, rom knee/ankle and ambulating with gait belt.
