Hello, I am interested in obtaining a certification in simulation aka Certified Health Simulator Educator. I was wondering if we have anyone who have gone through the certification process and any tips on study resources/test prep site/books. Do you think its worth getting the CHSE certification. Did it make a difference in your career? I have been in simulation education for over 5 years, both as a clinical instructor and now a director of a nursing simulation lab. Thanks in advance

You have a 4hours lecture, how will you keep your students engaged? What are the strategies you use that have worked for you? I want to reduce the use of looooong pages of ppt... I have included case study questions and a few videos.. I hate to have long ppt.. I didn't like it as a student, so I want to avoid it as a faculty. any suggestions?? Thanks

I totally agree to not to bore students with ppt slides. A colleague of mine had over a hundred pages of ppt slides.. intact I think it was 126 or so.... our lecture duration is 4hrs.. but then I felt 100 is just too much... anyway thanks for the tips

In addition to pay being lesser than bedside. You may be asked to present a short teaching session. When I interviewed for an instructor position, in the first interview, I wasn't asked anything educator/Instructor related. It was the regular, tell me about yourself, tell me about a difficult situation with a client/colleague and how did you handle it, stuff like that.. it was not until the second interview that the questions were narrowed to Instructor related questions and I had to present a 15min teaching. Again, you may have a different experience with your own interview. Be sure to sell yourself and your passion. All the best í ½í±í ¼í¿¾

I am required to teach just one summer session each year. I just got a new educator job. we will see how the summer teaching goes.

I just landed a nurse faculty job at a Community College. I'll be starting this summer. Just a quick question to all nurse educators and faculty. For the both experienced and non experienced educators - looking back on your first teaching assignment in a classroom or lab, what would you wish you had or had not done as a way of preparing you for your new educator role? What are your best strategies for keeping students engaged in the class? Would you prefer any other teaching method other than the use of power point slides? Tips or resources will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I had my orientation last week... and I was like "what have I gotten myself into'...I felt like running home and screaming 'mommy!' Lol.... my family have been supportive and encouraging..

I also get super bored easily. Especially when I have to do the same thing over again. Most people also advised me to go to medical school. But I refused.. I love nursing. I knew I wouldn't like being an NP either. I have done virtually everything. ER, medsurg, clinical teaching, community health. One thing that never bores me is research and education/ teaching - probably because I get to read new stuff and gather knew knowledge and skills...So, currently I'm pursuing my PhD in nursing. And I love it. You may need to do a couple of different things and find your niche. Best wishes

Hello, i have just been offered a Sim Lab Cordinator position at a nursing school in my town. And I am currently enrolled to begin my phd this fall. The pros I see in this job is that it gets my feet at the college door and probably into pure academia. Also, the college is across the street from the university where I take classes. And I'm a bit of a tech savvy and love working with props for simulation. The cons are that I am going to have a pay cut.. the salary I am offered in this new job is waaaaaayyyy below what I make now and below what I am worth as a masters prepared nurse. When I talked to my sister about this job, she asked are you looking for the experience or the money? Well, at this time I am looking for the experience.. but money is important too.. especially if you're in a phd prog. I'm still trying to make up my mind.
