  1. I was just wandering exactly this term implied-my instructor mentioned it when talking about titrating drugs to effect in a MAC case. I'm guessing meaning you don't want the patient to the point of a general sedation if their airway is not properly protected.
  2. I have not interviewed there myself. My best friend just graduated from there. Here interview as I've heard about from others.. very clinical.... went as far as the the lipid solubility of a particular drug and how that determines it's effect and particular receptors. Also a written test. If you have a chance to go speak with the director before your interview-- you can use that as practice b/c he will drill you in that too! It's rough and the thought of interviewing there scared the crap out of me just thinking about it! Good Luck! I know many students prep for the interview with the book - Hemodynamic Monitoring by Gloria Darovic-- I would say know your drugs and the receptors they work on.
  3. I think it can be helpful especially if you are fighting some undesirables in your application. I went this route-- I'm sure it isn't what got me into school-but can't hurt! Many graduate schools are hoping you will stay in the area of where you trained-and of course they would like to have good citizen as part of their community.
  4. From my personal experience with UNC and the anesthesia program too -- you have to stay on top of things- don't wait for them to contact you- follow-up
  5. If you have a BSN-- you should have taken chemistry-- isn't that part of the requirements? I don't see any advantage to a school saying you don't have to have chemistry. As a matter of fact-- I took post-bac chemistry courses and feel this helped me get into school. Chemistry plays a huge part in our educations so it doesn't make sense for a school to not have it as a requirement. To get the answer you are seeking -- you might want to explain why you are even asking in the first place-- as evidenced by all the previous posts- it's an important part
  6. No way- I know that school and their interview process- I have friends who have been through it and it is a rough interview
  7. I was really thinking about getting one of these-- they seem soo cool but wasn't sure I'd use it-- but sounds like you do-- do you study off your computer or print your notes out
  8. so I was thinking about the tablet/its sooo cool-- but I wasn't sure I'd really use it in class-- sounds like you do-- do you print your notes after or just study from your computer
  9. i have the ibm thinkpad z61 - its my first lap top and I'm happy with it-- check with your school-- they might offer good deals and support
  10. Any students using the tablet pc's in class to take notes-- they seem so cool but wondering if I'll really use it or if it will be a technical disaster in class
  11. One more thing about retaking courses... depending on how many courses you have taken.. you will be amazed how hard it is to raise the gpa.... it is very discouraging.. but retake them anyway... I repeated the whole first year of Chemistry -- over the summer 10 weeks--it really wasn't bad, earned A's... I also took advanced cardiovascular physiology, advanced physiology, organic chem for science majors and physics for science majors.--- You have got to get A's though-- maybe a B but the A's will be best of course-- YOU CAN DO IT
  12. I'm not going to post my whole underdog story ... not till I finish school and pass boards and get a job..THEN I will post a very inspiring story... but I want to tell you this... PERSISTENCE,PERSISTENCE yes take science courses... particulary Chemistry... spend time with a CRNA make sure it is what u want to do, look at all the schools there are some schools who accepts 2.75, 2.8 when u talk to people at the school... focus on how u are a different student now and have the grades to prove it!
  13. I get scared reading these posts but goose bumps when I read it is all worth it... I was a total underdog applying/interviewing... but am now more determined.. I start in January! I'm sure I'll be posting more once school starts!
  14. thanks... I think I'm understanding this right.... I'll apply while still employed but wait to ask for the actual check to see if I need it. what are u guys hearing about hospitals paying off school loans? Is this pretty standard? How much do they usually pay?
  15. ok-I'm just getting into this loan stuff-- start in january-- still working now... so do I apply now while I have a job... and just hold onto the money even if I'm not sure I'll need it? probably will need some but don't know about needing all of 25-40,000 per year
  16. ecu_crna2b vbmenu_register("postmenu_1738980", true); --- which pda do most students have?
  17. I actually took general chem 1 & 2 last summer--these were repeats for me- but it had been so long since I'd had them... I'll just be reviewing my notes from those classes. I think if you can get any courses out of the way its good... b/c they are kinda busy work... least at uncg they were.... I've got to look at mine and make sure they will count at ECU... I'm pretty sure they will
  18. I've already taken the core courses and took some refresher chemistry last summer.. ECU_CRNA2B: so where r u living... can u give advice on that? do you think it would be helpful to come work at pitt prior to starting to get to know the area? you can pm me if that is better
  19. I heard Thursday and have accepted.... there are no words to describe my how awesome I am feeling!
  20. Anyone heard from East Carolina?
  21. I am applying to two different schools that are 1 1/2 hrs from my home. I'm sure my husband will not want to move closer to either school. I wanted to hear from those of you who commute. Do you do it every day? or do you stay near school during the week and go home on the weekend? Was the commute time questioned during your interview?
  22. Hey guys- I interviewed for school for the first time this year and did not get accepted. I was so lost for a day or so but I have now recovered and going back for more! I have crappy undergrad grades. But have done post-bac work including advanced phy(A), organic chem(B) physics(B), and all the core courses like research(B), policy(A),Theory(A) ect- I scored 1150 on the GRE. I'm an ACLS instructor. ICU experience since 1997 Is it ok for me to ask feedback from the school which interviewed me as to what they would like to see me do? I'm definitly going to do my CCRN, and then look to get involved in some committees in the hospital and even our state nursing organization. Any other thoughts?
  23. Hey out there-- I have an interview with UNC-Greensboro for the Winston-Salem clinical site. Does anyone know anything about their interviewing technique? Also --the school interviews on 5 seperate dates, the first 3 weeks of Nov, and then the first 2 weeks of Dec. Which do you think is the better date. I'm thinking in December, as I will be more fresh is the selecting committee's mind. Any thoughts?
