Switched to LVN from the Business World and am UNDERWHELMED!
I went to LVN school in Southern California about 10 years ago and my first clinical site was pretty much the same as your experience. We had lunch at a nearby sushi place who didn't mind if some of us brought our own food and kept our belongings in our cars. As I progressed in the program, the sites improved, especially so with a high GPA.

COVID-19: How to handle working with staff who don't take precautions out of work
No testing of staff whatsoever in Southern California hospital. Two thirds of our patients are covid positive and we have been working out of ratio for at least a week. And yes, some of my fellow nurses continue to travel like the world isn't succumbing to a pandemic. Meanwhile, my request for a single day of PTO next month (almost 300 hours banked at this point) hasn't been approved... The struggle is real y'all.

Oxygen requirements & level of care
I work med surg tele with ratio of 1:4 and more often than not have covid patients on heated high flow or oxymizer. It really is unnerving to have one on both high flow and the non rebreather though.

Age vs Years Nursing
Got my LVN in 2012 and my RN in 2017; 39 years old. Prior to nursing I worked in marketing:/

What is it like to work in a good hospital?
I continued to work in SNF after getting my RN so that I could be "picky" about my next place of employment, i.e. relatively better benefits/pay and day shift schedule. It took about 18 months and hundreds of applications to achieve this, but I made it. It is not my preferred unit, but the supportive unit culture makes up for it. Also I am in CA, so that helps too.

Generation Z
More like Gen X; this happened almost 20 years ago. I am confident that a person of Gen Z age group was not directly affected by an event from 2001.

Tips for dealing with CA BRN?
I am in virtually the same situation. Submitted full app online May 15th. Received letter requesting that I resubmit fingerprints. 2nd Livescan sent May 30th. I made a complaint to DCA via email and got the same response: They are currently processing applications that were received between April 16-30. It takes 10-12 weeks to get an initial evaluation.

NCLEX Results California
I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am wondering if this is at all related to wait time for authorization to test. I applied May 16th, graduated May 25th, and registered / paid PearsonVue June 6th. Most of my cohort has received their ATT, and a few have their RN license number already.

Age of Nurse = Level of Experience? Or Not?? The survey says...
I am 36 years old. Nursing is my 2nd career; in my former life I worked in marketing/advertising. I have been working as an LVN since 2012 in several specialties. 3 weeks ago I completed my ADN; just waiting for my ATT...

My NCLEX Experience: Preparations, Study Tips, and Acing the Exam
I second this advice. And you are fortunate to have attended a school that utilized HESI. My LVN education was all HESI, and was all I used to study for the boards; I passed at 85 ?s. I will add that you should schedule the test for no more than 4 weeks after your last instructional day of nursing school. And definitely relax the last 24-48 hours prior to testing. Oh, and if you haven't already, do learn some stress relief techniques like breathing exercises and such. I know this kept me from a panic attack at about ? number 60 or so. Good luck!

LTC's are a joke
From working in pediatric PDN, I learned that suspensions/compounds are far pricier than their "typical" (and able to be repackaged) solid forms. You can order it, but whether or not insurance/Medicare will cover is the real question here. Liquid ABT and vitamins/minerals shouldn't be a problem to request for house supply, particularly if you have GT residents.
