  1. Pain is subjective--- not objective.
  2. Not again!!! We are an inpatient acute rehab unit... not a geriatric psych floor!!! No wonder I quit full time floor nursing to go to telephone triage!!!
  3. AWWW... I love Klinger!!!
  4. 30 to 40 minutes
  5. It depends on the situation. I have run it in on a trauma patient at 250/hr-- but that is not common Sometinmes we will go 4/hr sometimes 2/hr---just depends on the patient and the dituation.
  6. Allnurses.com... Nursing with an attitude!
  7. I start next week with Optum Nurse call Line. I have been an RN for nearing 2 years, but was an LPN for 20 years prior. I do have 6 years med-surg and rehab nursing-- which was a big plus for them. I went on the interview, did a few tests, had a background check and drug screen and was offered the position almost immediately. Benefits are fantastic, and my hours are set, days on and off will never change-- except for holidays.
  8. That is what the locks on the pumps are for...
  9. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Campus has the best NICU in the country.
  10. I work with nurses young enough to be my daughter, and also some old enough to be my mother. Age makes no difference--- as long as that nurse is competent.
  11. Hello, I work at a hospital which has Greak Oaks students do the clinicals there. The instructors are extremely knowledgable, and the students are not passed on unless they are absolutely ready to be. For Great Oaks, pass rates as follows: 2002: 84.16% 2003: 82.11% 2004: 90.07% For Brown Macke pass rates: there are no stats available There is another good program in Hillsboro, Ohio at Southern State Community College. The pass rates are: 2002: 100% 2003: 87.80% 2004: 95.00% To find pass statistics on these and other schools, go to: http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/PDFS/2002-2004-PN.pdf
  12. This is non nursing related, but, a couple of years ago, I was substitute instructing for a college literature course at our local community college. We were comparing how some song lyrics are like poetry. I brought up Bob Dylan, and the 19 year old in the front asks "Who is Bob Dylan?"!!!! Now, that makes me feel old!!!
  13. On the unit I work on at the hospital where I work, we have a unit clerk for 6 hours a day, mon-Fri only. We still get admissions anytime also.
  14. There are a couple of websites that might help you http://www.wesellusahomes.com/GA.cfm http://www.ajc.com
  15. :angryfire :angryfire Not only is that ethically wrong, it is patient abuse and neglect. That is morally demeanibg to the patient. That nurse needs FIRED and reported to the state board!!!
  16. Any place I have worked, we never did draws from a midline. Piccs--yes. Mid-lines-No.
  17. We are not allowed to have our own bottles of hand lotion!! The infection control nurse says it can cause a breadown in the durability of our gloves!! How absurd!! We do not reuse the gloves!!!
  18. Shuttle??? They did not tell me anything about that in the interview!! I had to ride a shuttle when I worked at Children's Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. I hated it!!! Anyhow, I turned them down. At least for the weekend position. I may interview for a few others.
  19. Why don't you try a pool or prn position at a hospital close by. That way you are not committed to any certain hours, and you can decide if you like it or not.
  20. Talk to the bullying nurse in a conference with your boss. If that does not solve things, then take it a step higher to your boss' boss.
  21. I used to live in Acworth. It is about 25 miles North of Atlanta. It is a great community, with lots and lots of things to see an d do. The crime rate in that area, especially closer to Woodstock is fairly low compared to closer to Atlanta. Also the commute to Atlanta is not bad at all, except lots of traffic. I absolutely loved it there. People were so friendly and the schools are great. I would suggest Boston Elementary, ET booth Intermediat, and Etowah High. Fantastic schools!! I worked at a Nursing Home in Canton for a few weeks--- my suggestion is stay away from there! I hated it. I did work at Children's Hospital in Atlanta and LOVED it!! They treat their employees like gold!! Any way, goodluck!! We are looking at moving back there real soon also! I can't wait!!
  22. I still do back-rubs at HS on my patients who are willing to accept one. Not only does it help the patient relax, it helps promote/restore circulation. In some cases, it can also help relieve pain. This is one area JCAHO is focusing on this year.
  23. Phlebotomist draws routine draws and ABG's. Nurses draw if the patient has a PICC or Port.
