  1. Did my dream just die?

I've had bad knees my entire life. Injured my bad one July 4th and it hasn't acted right since, so I went to the orthopedist today. The diagnosis blew me away ... advanced osteoarthritis. I'm looking at 2 years tops before a total knee replacement...
  2. Okay so you're scared of the flame, but that's no excuse for that assistant to be such a jerk about it! I had a different problem with my bunsen burner. We didn't use matches but had metal spark-er thingies. Each time it took FOREVER for me to get...
  3. Having trouble getting motivated

I'm already shared that I'm back to school after taking a few months to resettled after becoming separated from my husband. I know I've spent the summer feeling depressed and kind of letting myself go. I really thought getting back into the school ...
  4. Having trouble getting motivated

Oh Gods, thank you for posting because I can relate to SO much of what you shared. Our situations aren't exactly the same, but the need is the same. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work! Eventually we'll be the ones striding around in scru...
  5. Having trouble getting motivated

Solidarity! Solidarity! Thanks for the vote of support .. and you have mine as well. Tried to message this but for some reason the system won't allow me to. Please if you need support feel free to message me anytime. The more the merrier
  6. Having trouble getting motivated

Thanks everyone for the responses! Its a few days later and I'm feeling better, not so overwhelmed. I'm on a bit of a rollercoaster and just have to learn to anticipate that as crappy as things may seem sometimes if I just give it a day usually I'l...
  7. Going Back To Nursing School at 42

Welcome aboard! I'm 40 myself and, like you, this has long been my dream. I'm currently working full-time and start back this semester to continue working on knocking out those pre-requisites. My 11yo daughter is supportive. My husband was never ...
  8. Diving back into the pre-req grind

Hey all After an eventful six months during which DH left me for someone else (didn't realize that at the time of course, but its come out that that's the reason) and in the aftermath of that I withdrew from my spring classes, I'm finally back in ...
  9. Diving back into the pre-req grind

Yeah really .. it would be so much easier if they would just disappear from your life after leaving you for that proverbial younger/prettier/blonder/better bodied/better everything other woman. That's exactly where I am, trying to plan everything...
  10. Diving back into the pre-req grind

Thanks for the good thoughts! I'm staying positive ... I'm staying positive ... :monkeydance: Angela
  11. I need some serious advice here!!

I know all about those conflicting feelings and ideas about what you should be doing - I constantly feel that myself! My first thought was maybe you could find a way to shadow a surgical tech to see if the job is for you? I know you can do that wit...
  12. How do you focus when you have personal issues??

I became separated 1/2 way through Spring semester this year. Unlike the others who have responded, I decided to withdraw from classes. While I would have managed to do well in Soc, I just knew I wouldn't be able to focus enough to pull out the A I...
  13. I cried in class today

I'd really like to think that was the case but there was respiration and our instructor confirmed they were still alive.
  14. I cried in class today

I cried in AP1 lab on the first day of class. We were dissecting mice and we got its chest open to find its little heart still beating. Turns out 75% of them didn't get enough ether. There were plenty of tears in lab that day
  15. Blue Ridge CTC?

Anyone attended Blue Ridge CTC? I see they used to be part of Shephard University but can't seem to find anyone who actually went there. I'm moving from Maryland where we have community colleges in every county. WVa doesn't seem to be the same. ...
  16. So mad

That hurts Its the same at the cc I'm attending. I go there instead of the one in my county because they are far more working student friendly (online and weekend classes), but as I'm not a resident I can't get into their ADN program. Not at all....
  17. "Its dead, Jim"

I'm not sure how to move forward from here. DH and I are separating. He's found an apartment and is moving on May 1st. I've long been the primary breadwinner in our marriage so on his salary he will just be able to afford the apartment, utilities,...
  18. Entry Level Positions?

The discussions I overheard were re jobs at the local hospital, but that was because they were mostly nursing students trying to get on with the hospital. I just this morning saw a pleb job posting for a local lab, so apparently there are jobs at bo...
  19. Entry Level Positions?

At my CC its offered as a non-credit vocational certificate program, just as the CNA is. You take the two consecutive classes then do a clinical portion to get the 100 sticks required to sit for the exam. No I haven't done the program, but in one ...
  20. Anyone else taking on-line courses?

A lot of how online classes works depends on the structure provided by your school. I've taken several online classes - College Algebra, Eng Comp, Psych and Soc. The Algebra class aside, each basically had a rigid schedule with multiple deadlines p...
  21. "Its dead, Jim"

I talked with DH last night and - shockingly - he said he'd be glad to take care of DD while I'm in Saturday classes. He said he didn't want our separating to be a reason for me not to continue in school. I'm totally floored. He's never been unsup...
  22. Entry Level Positions?

Are you a full-time student? If so, maybe not too much. I haven't taken Pleb so I can't speak directly to how difficult the class is, sorry
  23. Entry Level Positions?

Another option is Plebotomy - it seems a lot of nursing students around here do that to get on with the local hospitals. Its good to get onstaff in any capacity because then you may qualify for tuition reimbursement, scholarships, etc.
  24. "Its dead, Jim"

gr8rnpjt - I'm so sorry about your troubles with your ex! Believe me, I'm hearing quite a few of these grim stories these days Actually DD will continue to live with me in our home so him suing me for child support won't be an issue. I mentioned ...
  25. "Its dead, Jim"

DH's family is about 40 miles away but as they also work full-time they can't be of help in taking care of DD. Also since I'm already gone 12 hours a day with my full-time job, I'm hesitant about being gone much more with classes. It was okay when ...
