Prestigous Online Rn - Bsn Programs

Hopefully this isn't a redundant question.

I have a few questions. I am currently finishing up my RN degree in California, (Maric College) ADN program. They are neither WASC nor NLA accredited. My future goals are to get a BSN and then further my degree, possibly CRNA. My dilemma here is in finding a school that has some reputation but will accept my credits. As such I have narrowed my field to private institutions as they are the most likely choice in accepting my credits. I would also like to find a program that is online if applicable. Based on this criteria I have only seen online RN - BSN programs that are classified as "diploma mills," - UOP, NU, Excelsior, etc.

Are there any online private institutions of reputable source that would give me a better chance of getting into a CRNA program? I'm looking for something equal to the reputation of lets say, Georgetown, U of M, etc etc. Is there such a program out there? Thanks in advance

Excuse me? Excelsior a diploma mill? You need to recheck your sources! Excelsior is regionally and NLN accredited.

most of your responses are going to be flames for this one comment here. i don't know anything about nu but i do know that uop and ec are nationally accredited.. ec is also accredited by the nln , i don't know about uop. but i do know that it has some type of nursing accreditation. you need to re-evaluate your sources. a lot, and i mean a lot of nurses on this forum are ec/uop grads and students..

Check out the RN to BSN stickey above.

You will find most RN to BSN programs that are online are not from your larger "prestigious" schools, perhaps due to staffing issues, or perhaps it's not a market they need with them already turning away applicants. The program I am attending through Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences in NLN accredited, and even though I graduated from an NLN ADN program, I don't think it was a requirement. I'm not sure if CRNA schools will stick their nose up at this school or not.

melodylpn: sorry if your going there and took offense to my statement but i was told by educators to stay clear of certain schools that i have mentioned. they told me to put those diplomas up against prestigious schools (georgetown, yale, vanderbilt, university of washington) and they do not think i would take the placement based off of this criteria otherwise.

in the end i was not hoping to create controversy but rather find a answer to my question. i truly wish this wasn't an issue and i would just go to what is convenient but if there is biased in this regards, i want to best prepare myself for success.

txspadequeen921: i have been told by some people who are in nursing education that i should seek out more prestigious programs if i hope to achieve my goal in the competitive world. this is not my opinion as i am just a student and really have no personal experience with the quality of the afore-mentioned schools but there is a biased in the the world of nursing education. otherwise instead of a 2 year step up program i would find one that takes the least amount of time possible.

tweety: thanks for your response. i hope you are right but i suppose the best thing to do is actually contact some admission councelor's at crna schools of interest and see what they have to say.

anyways, i guess i will just continue to look through online nursing programs and hopefully stumble across something that pops out at me. is there a list anywhere that specifically states "online" rn - bsn programs?

How about Medical College of GA. The nursing school has a good reputation. The school also has a medical school. They have an online RN to BSN program that looks good, and might be prestigious enough to meet your criteria.

Many state and public universities offer online programs now and from what I've seen, are much cheaper than your Excelsior, UOP, etc. I'm in my second semester of an RN to MSN program at University of South FL, so far has been completely online, no face to face meetings, only costs about $400/class. (as an aside, one of my instructors got her MSN from UOP and is in a doctoral program now, so that does show about the credibility of UOP I think) I would look into the public universities in your area and see what they offer online.

University of Delaware. Fully accredited, and you don't even have to ask about respect. However, incredibly expensive. ($768.00 per credit hour)...I'm considering it if I sell my personal posessions and my non-dominant arm.

UTMB also is online and they are reputable
