Hi
Hopefully this isn't a redundant question.
I have a few questions. I am currently finishing up my RN degree in California, (Maric College) ADN program. They are neither WASC nor NLA accredited. My future goals are to get a BSN and then further my degree, possibly CRNA. My dilemma here is in finding a school that has some reputation but will accept my credits. As such I have narrowed my field to private institutions as they are the most likely choice in accepting my credits. I would also like to find a program that is online if applicable. Based on this criteria I have only seen online RN - BSN programs that are classified as "diploma mills," - UOP, NU, Excelsior, etc.
Are there any online private institutions of reputable source that would give me a better chance of getting into a CRNA program? I'm looking for something equal to the reputation of lets say, Georgetown, U of M, etc etc. Is there such a program out there? Thanks in advance
I personally know a nurse ( she takes care of my daughter in home care) .....she just finished her Masters in Nursing through University of Phoenix online. She really liked it & never said a bad thing about it, except it was a little more expensive than the average program, that's all. She is moving to Florida in 2 weeks, & I believe she just got hired as a regional director for the home nursing agency she works for here taking care of my daughter as a field nurse. They have companies all over the country...and she had no problem getting an interview. I think those professors telling you to "stasy clear of diploma mills" should know for a fact what schools are diploma mills before making such a remark.......that's all. I thought the same thing until I actually saw what she did for coursework.......it's tons & tons of writing papers & doing research.....she even got invited to join some nursing society...phi cappa something or other.....I probably have the name wrong, but one of those socities anyway...... so UOP can't be a diploma mill ...........good luck on finding a program to further your education......

hmm while i was a director of nursing, i hired a couple of crna's who started their nursing careers in regents college (now excelsior) and having sat in on some of the selction process, it's more what you did after your initial degree that makes a difference. besides i've had some nurses work for and with me who graduated from one of the most prestigious nursing programs on the east coast and they were lousy nurses.
as a mater of fact i konw a couple fo proffesors in east coast crna programs that got their initially nursing degree at the local community college.
