G-Tube & J-Tube
I believe the J tube is for feeding/meds & the Gtube is for draining. It could depend on the patient, a patient I used to care for had both & we used to feed her by J Tube, and hook her G tube into a foley drainage bag overnight, and if it was more than 150cc we would re instill it back into her stomach......

MHM in Corrections? Anyone have any feedback on them?
Well, I just got my offer letter from them yesterday and I have to say, I am really dissappointed greatly. I was hired by the vendor that had the contract before mhm took over.....I was hired by the 1st company to work 24 hours at $25.94/hr with full benefits (state benefits) + shift diff, and this new vendor who takes over July 1st and their offer was 24 hours, $26.71/hr + shift diff and no benefits at all, plus get forced to stay mandatory shifts for coverage and probably alot from what I have heard. I was more dissappointed than mad...... I work per diem in home care making $6.00 an hour more with no benefits as well. Alot of people are angry..and I can understand why. I even called the new co, so I'd be a fool to take less pay for the same & they said no one with less than 30 hours gets benefits at all. I applied strictly because of the great benefits..and now this new company does this..... I am trying to transfer to another area that has the old company still but I will only be per diem in that case. I know......if I am doing per diem, then what's the matter.....well that way if a permanent position opens up for 24 hours I will apply for it.......I don't want to do more than 24 hours in one place...I have another job also..I know it's only a 6 hour difference BUT they only do 8 hour shifts..so that's 4 days....they are even giving huge bonuses on top of regular pay to get people to work this weekend.

Your biggest mistake was.......
yes! When I first started school,I had a problem being organized with supplies needed for a specific thing like a dressing change, or bed bath.....it took me a while to get it....... so think what you will need and gather it all up........and for dressing changes...I always now bring 1-2 more than what I would need of each item "just in case"..nothing will make a patient lose faith in you faster than to "appear" like you don't know what the heck you're doing...even if you don't , you can "fake it" so to speak......the old saying "never let them see you sweat"..lol. Also, with patient care....always talk to the patient..even if they are out of it or non verbal, or what have you. I am saying this from what I have observed, and from my own personal experiences..... If you get a patient who is developmentally delayed or who can't communicate...never ever assume they have no idea of what's going on....think about it....if you were sitting or lying there with your eyes covered and something stuffed in your ears....and someone came over without so much as a hello, and just started poking and prodding you.....wouldn't that be upsetting or scary to you? I can't tell you how many times I have seen docs, nurses, xray techs, phlebs do this.......always remember to say whatever you are doing or are going to do..after a while it just becomes so that you do it without even realizing you are doing it......and it helps the patient.......you'll be fine! Good Luck!

How long did it take for you to get your RN?...
7 years for me for a 2 year degree. I took 1-2 classes at a time and just chipped away...... plus with personal responsibilities with my child with medical issues, and working there was no way I could of done full time. I only went full time when I had nursing itself..... I "technically" have enough credits for a BSN, even maybe an MSN...but not enough in one specific area of study to get me one. I am however going for my BSN maybe this Sept or in Jan because I only need 4 extra nursing classes to get my BSN .......hey...it shouldn't matter how long it took , the only thing that matters is that one did it! Look at the 95 yr old who finally got her BSN...and is going for her MSN......good for her!!!!

PLEASE don't do it!
Yes...believe it or not....(of course a sexual act has to occur)..but because an inmate is a ward of the state they cannot consent to anything even though they are legal age. It's a formality because I would imagine it's happened so many times before. It's along the same idea as statutory rape. I haven't began my job yet, I have to go tomorrow for more orientation but we'll see if it's for me or not......I am back & forth on this....probably the fear of the unexpected......we shall see....

HIPPA Violation?
Definetly a HIPPA violation because she got consent after she already opened her trap. What business is it of her's anyway? Obviously the son isn't such good friends because if he was, well wouldn't he already know about the baby's birth?

PLEASE don't do it!
Wow....it amazes me at some of the things I have read...lol. I am actually just finishing up orientation for my new job at a correctional facility and it is drilled into our skulls to never ever ever cross that line...and even the most innocent comment can be the start of a whole entire fiasco. They said that inmates lose their right to consent & become a ward of the state while in prison, so even if it is a mutually agreed upon thing, with another inmate even......it is rape. And if a professional person gets caught it is rape, and they will be considered a sex offender as well because they will get prosecuted. I have been told so many things about correctional nursing and stories about things that happened unprofessionally that it makes me cringe.........

MHM in Corrections? Anyone have any feedback on them?
Hello, I actually just got hired at a local state psychiatric hospital/prison, and the company that hired me is no longer going to be the vendor...and it will be this MHM company as of 7/01. I found their benefits, from what were described...to be not as good as what the original company offered. I'll let you know how this new company is......I am brand new to correctional nursing.

Pay for LPN's in Home Health
Where I live you have skilled visits or block time visits.....skilled visits are usually one amount like $30.00 for a new case, or $26.00 for an established case. For block time...it's by the hour and it is usually 4 hours to 16 hours depending on your preference, hours available etc. Also it depends if you work days, evenings, or overnights that determines your hourly rate as well.....

BCC acceptance letters?
Oh yes......I live near that college.....it is a good school, however.....they get about 300- 600 applicants a year for 60-70 slots......I applied five years in a row & could not get in...I applied to the college I just graduated from & got right in & have since graduated. I say if you can get in BCC, you are lucky.....I'd probably still be trying to get in & still being refused......and you either get in or you don't...there is no waiting list. Have you tried Brockton Hospital School Of Nursing? You can get in there right away, I went there & did a year then went to another school but had to start from scratch....... I went to Community College of RI..(would be equal to BCC or Massasoit) and they have a fantastic nursing program.....I was very impressed! If you want info send me a private message or go on their website...good luck!

I say this patient is being abused...
Absolutely you can report it......and anonymously. We literally just had an abuse inservice last week at the home care agency I work for. The social worker will come out unannounced, and pay a visit. If the woman says no, and she probably will........they will know if she is just afraid by exactly what you have described her behavior as doing......and the social worker will again make an unannounced visit..just to "see how you're doing" ......they don't just dissappear after the supposed abused person refuses help.........it doesn't go that way. I would definetly report this......maybe she was afraid to say anything with him there....but you can always call her up if you have to for any reason.....say for an upcoming appointment.......and ask so she can just give a yes or no answer..........maybe it will work, maybe not. Once that social worker comes out....that makes the victim feel better & gives them power because "someone knows" something is going on......... we had a 2 hr inservice that was really informative & lots of info......Good Luck
