President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

There's this pesky little thing called 8 U.S. Code 1158 - Asylum Code that prohibits asylum seekers from being deported.  This cannot be overruled by executive order .  A federal appeals court denied Biden's attempt to control asylum crossings:

CNN —

A federal judge on Tuesday blocked President Joe Biden's controversial asylum policy, delivering a major blow to the administration, which has leaned on the measure to drive down border crossings. The judge put the ruling on hold for 14 days for a possible appeal.....Tigar's ruling stems from a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union among other immigrant rights groups over a new asylum rule that largely bars migrants who passed through another country from seeking asylum in the United States, marking a departure from decades-long protocol.

And the last insult was the Republicans attempting to conflate US aid to Ukraine as something akin to our asylum problems.  They had a chance to participate in moving forward with reform but chose the stoppage of money to Ukraine as more important.  And, of course, we have since sent more aid to Ukraine since their little snit hissy. These issues   are separate and deserve equal attention in their own right.  This was just Republican grandstanding for no logical reason.

We've already gone around on how Biden created the border mess and only wants to appear that he is trying to fix it.  I'm not inclined to go around again more than we already have.

I'll simply acknowledge a few things and move on:

1) Biden promised to roll back Trump's border policies and actually did get rid of many, starting the day he was inaugurated.

I recognize that Biden supporters do not believe there is a correlation between his promises, actions, and inaction and the record numbers coming to the border from unprecedented number of countries.

2) For the first three years of Biden's term, his administration and many Democrats claimed that there was no border crisis and that the border was secure.

Now, it's an election year and Biden is getting beat up in the polls on this issue.

I acknowledge that Biden's supporters believe the President now believes the border chaos IS a crisis, he now wants to fix it, and Trump and his supporters are to blame for the continued crisis.

The 10th Circuit Court disagrees with you.  THEY are the ones that put a hex on the Biden plan.  Republicans have made it PERFECTLY obvious that they have no interest in changing anything.  It's just the cost of getting Trump in office.  I would call them prostitutes except for the fact that they do it for their pleasure. not out if necessity.  No prostitute deserves to be called a Republican.

Yes, we've been over most of this.

Thank you for reminding us of your opinions and conclusions.

Yes, it's an election year and Republicans are telling the American people that our broken, outdated and overwhelmed immigration and asylum system is all Biden's fault while they quietly work to maintain chaos to benefit your candidate.  That works with lots and lots of working class people in May but it will not work as well in September.

Biden has policy goals that include bipartisan negotiations.  Republicans have policy goals that focus upon what Trump wants or needs.  Trump has policy goals that focus on...well, if you listen to his recent NJ rally speech/rant it would be hard to know what his actual policies are.  Biden's immigration policy does not include saying that migrants are poisoning the blood of our country.

Yes, Republicans have spread the anxiety about our southern border very passionately and persistently.  Then they were confronted with bipartsan legislation that favorably addressed many of their complaints.  That's when it became embarrassingly obvious that the photo ops and press conferences and social media rants from congressional Republicans was all theater. They'd rather steam Trump's trousers than do their actual jobs for the American people.

It's good that you understand that we could be taking steps to improve our border crisis if not for Trump and his Republicans. That's a good step.

Liz Cheney loool. Last I heard she not a republican or even a politician anymore.

I'm not surprised.  You think all of this MAGA stuff is normal conservative politics. You believe you were kicked out of the democratic party while joking about Liz Cheney's republican credentials or identity.

What you don't seem to know is that Trump has consumed the republican party.  There is no longer a republican party.  That's just a a political group that was assimilated into Trump's service. The label survives but none of the ideology or principles or policies remain in the era of MAGA and Trump's cult of personality.

You are probably young and your ignorance of the recent history of conservatism versus Trumpism can be forgiven.

Did you not see where the WashPo article states "But Biden's higher numbers are partly the result of a much greater volume of illegal crossings."?

I'll keep to myself who I think does and does not know what they're talking about.

That's what you're going with? Seriously? That WaPo decides what I should think? There's a reason I don't play dueling citations beyond my rudimentary smartphone tech skills.

I don't follow the immigration "debate" partly because it basically boils down to a pack of thieves squabbling over how to split up the loot.

Meanwhile, I may not know the statistics of events at the border, but I live in a border state. And I know a Gish gallop when I read one.

It's quite interesting listening to someone talk about cults with that incredible far fetched irrational rant. LOL

There is no republican party left. What's your suggestion?  Get rid of the republican party? Have a single party government?  Wow. This is trupmaphobic MAGA derangement at its finest.

I recognize that Biden supporters believe that Biden's hands are tied and he can't do anything about the border without legislation from congress.   In essence, they are admitting he is a weak and feckless leader on this issue.

It seems he's spreading false information to influence the election.  It really should be a crime.

"President Biden repeated his false claim that inflation was at 9% when he first took office less than a week after being called out for making the same assertion."

Oh well.  The president has immunity according to team Trump.  Let me know when he starts lying about hurricane paths, pandemics or elections, OK?

It's interesting for you to talk about cults but you don't seem to recognize the elements of cults.

Trump is the one getting rid of the republican party.  It's really a shame that you are so inured to the Trump erosion of conservative values (that the GOP spent decades marketing to the American public).  If you paid attention, you'd understand that Trump isn't interested in a two party system, he's interested in a system where he retains power until he passes that power to his chosen heir.  Trump is dismantling the RNC, we don't need to do it. His family is now in control of the planning and the money.  There's reporting that the RNC is now shutting down some field offices. Most people calling themselves Republicans don't seem to care.  The people who do care, like Cheney are mocked by people like you.  I'd say it was you that is "getting rid" of the republican party favoring MAGA instead.  That's your political party, MAGA. You are indifferent to the future of the GOP as long as Trump is president and MAGA is the plan.

In my nursing experience, which includes acute inpatient psychiatric care, refusal to consider or engage in reality is an element of deranged thinking.  Your projection of that trumpian "syndrome" simply makes it more obvious that you are really struggling with reality and the cognitive dissonance that accompanies following a liar and conman.

Thank you for sharing your characterization.  It reminds me that you also characterize Trump as strong and a good president.
