Prelicensure BSN program in Florida

Nursing Students Western Governors

Hello Everyone! Is anyone in the process or thinking about doing the prelicensure program in Florida??? I've many other people commenting other states but I have rarely seen anyone from Florida. I know the program is recently starting up and not as competitive as the other states. But hopefully theirs more people in Florida thinking about doing this school also!

My husband is wanting a career change, we currently live in Ohio but are planning a move to Florida in the next year or year and a half. I am going thru Excelsior for my LPN to RN but he doesn't have any patient care experience at this time. I was looking into the program for him and it seems like it may work, he has some college credits being a Real Estate Agent right now and was majoring in music education at THE Ohio State University....so I know that he could complete something competency based, I was just writing to find out if you all think it'd be a good plan for him to go here for his RN or if I should keep looking...

Hey everyone! I'm currently in the process of completing my pre Reqs online with Straighterline to then hopefully transfer into the program! I plan to finish my pre Reqs and TEAS before the April 2017 deadline for the June 2017 program start. I'm so excited and would love to hear about others' experience while in the program. I live in the Orlando area so I know getting to clinicals will be a commute! I guess my first questions are, does any past medical experience help your chances of getting in? do you guys think it looks like you can complete the courses and graduate before the 5 terms since it's all self-paced? And how are the clinicals, do you get to work with other nursing students? So cool to see other Florida residents in the program I hope to get into!

Yes, having past medical experience should help you in the admission process.

Do you guys think it looks like you can complete the courses and graduate before the 5 terms since it's all self-paced?

No, this is the only program that has that you cannot complete "early". You can complete your classes early in a term, until the next one starts, but finishing in lets say 4 terms to graduate early you cannot.

And how are the clinicals, do you get to work with other WGU nursing students?

Your're pretty much on your own during clinicals. It's you and your preceptor 1 on 1 and you work your preceptors schedule. However, if another student in your cohort is also scheduled in the same unit with a different preceptor then you might be able to see each other and can talk which has happened to me on occasion.

You really have to be disciplined to succeed. Since majority of it is online, it is very easy to fall behind. I learned that the hard way. It's much easier to stay ahead! Goodluck, its a great program.

@centercourt2015 - thank you for replying! I appreciate the insightful feedback. I'll def keep these in mind for nursing school! :)

Yay!!! Some Florida people...... I am going through the application process as well. My prerecs are from 10 years old so it was "suggested" that I retake them...ugh. So I am working through AP I/II and Micro. Hoping to start in June if not sooner!!! I live in Panama City, so the drive will be fun. Originally from Orlando - so it won't be too bad!

Specializes in Cosmetic RN.

What do you think about Straighter Line. I read really bad reviews about them, like the questions on the exams don't match the class content. I need to take Microbiology to get into .

Look into Edukan, that's where I did my Micro for .

So happy to see other Florida applicants!!!

I am so happy to see that there are other applicants that are looking into this program that resides in Florida. I am waiting to see if I get in for June as well. I have completed everything and retook anatomy for a higher grade. Now it's just the waiting game for me.

I am curious to know if you got in? I am thinking of starting this program in October!

Hi Chiro54, I haven't heard anything yet. I think they are finalizing the candidates so I should hopefully hear something next month. From my research, it seems like a very good program so I hope I get in. I will keep you posted as soon as I received any updates.

I wanted to give the community colleges near me a try. So I am holding off until October to apply.
