Taking A &P I and II and microbiology

I want to retake A&P I and II because I want to strengthen my knowledge on these courses and also to improve my grade on both courses. I'm just not sure whether or not it is a good idea to also take Microbio together with A&P I and II. Since I just recently took them, I think maybe I can handle 2 A&P classes while taking microbio. Besides, I also don't work and I don't really spend a lot of time doing social stuff. So my question is, is it doable?

FWIW, I took A&P 1 and Micro at the same time and got As in both. Micro was hit and miss - I was a high B for a good half of hte semester, but I hit an A witih the final exam. Since you've already had all 3, I would think you would have an even easier time, though I'm also flummoxed at why oh why you are retaking a B/A- class...

Thank you. I feel more confident about it now. I'm scared of microbiology.

Maybe I should just retake the B+. I wasn't really focused when I took A&P I. I didn't study my hardest. The lab portion raised my grade up. For most of the lecture exams, I always studied last minute and I'm really good at cramming information. But the problem now is I don't remember most of the stuff I learned from that class. I just really want to master it and bump that grade to maybe an A.

Personally, I wouldn't take all three at the same time. I took A&P2 and Micro together and it was really difficult. I made an A in both, but almost a B in A&P. My friend took 3 science classes together, struggled the whole semester, and ended up only making an A in one.

I also don't work, so I have a lot of time to commit to studying. But, there's only so many hours in the day and you don't want to be extremely sleep deprived. Microbiology is a different world than A&P and the lab is really time consuming. Just writing up pre and post labs would take me hours each week. Also, will you be able to handle multiple tests and lab practicals in the same week? Is there any way you can take one during the summer instead?

I see what you mean. Those 3 classes are all on the same day too if I were to take them this coming fall semester. Yup, I don't think I can handle taking multiple tests in a day.

Thank you so much! Your response has been really kind & helpful

You can always take the classes you still need and then if you don't get into a program THEN retake AP if necessary. Otherwise I'd just review the material as necessary.

I know it sounds insane and a waste of time but yes, I do have time to spare. I finished most of my prereq for pre-nursing during highschool and my first year in college which I just finished this sem. If I don't retake A&P courses, I only have BIO 251 to finish. I just want to really master A&P before entering the nursing program. Even though my grades are good enough, I think there's always room for improvement.

You are correct, there is always a room for improvement. However, it does not mean you have to take a class for a fee. There are so many great resources online which are absolutely free! For example, Khan Academy is an awesome one to brush up on may AP concepts.

Don't retake your A&P classes - focus on micro.

As someone who tutors the pre-nursing classes, at this point you really just want to focus on two things:

Remembering what you have learned so far, and then building on it.

Depending on the college you took A&P at, they might have missed a bunch of really important stuff out. For example, this can happen if you're at a community college that makes things easier than they should so that their numbers look good (It happens). You'll want to go back through your textbook and see where those holes might be.

Retaking the class won't really serve you much unless they go into more depth. To be honest, if you have an A&B you should be at the point where you have all the groundwork laid, so it'll be easier to build on what you already know.

Prepare yourself now - make sure you know things like the cell (huuuuuuuuge), endocrine/cardio/renal/respiratory systems, hemodynamics.

There's tons of free resources online that can help: previous poster mentioned khanacademy, there's crash course, McGraw-Hill has a bunch of stuff online, Openstax has their own A&P book available for free.

Focus on micro - it's heavy, and some do have a hard time with it. Don't make things harder than they need to be.

Wow wow wow this is a first. Don't retake a whole anatomy class you already passed. Listen you won't know everything in the body before you start nursing and that's ok. Know that in nursing school your textbooks will have an overview of AP as well as patho related to the disease you are covering (so trust me you will get plenty of AP fix once in the program). But if you insist I recommend buying a generic med surg textbook and reading about body systems/parts and pathos involved with common disease like hypertension, seizures, dementia, diabetes, grastrointestinal, COPD....etc. save that money because you will need it in nursing school because you will be wiped clean. Wish I had money now to go shopping, get hair done, car washed, movies, eat out, travel. A girl can dream.

With a B+ and an A- I think you are prepared enough to understand what you need to know for nursing school. You can always refer to your text if you need clarification on something at that time.

Thanks you guys! I really appreciate your thoughts about this. I didn't know what to do.

Yes, I have made up my mind. I think with almost everyone saying I shouldn't retake A&P, I'm deciding not to retake A&P II. I'm still, however, thinking about retaking the first one (A&P I) together with microbiology. Then after that, I will be applying to the nursing program :)

I will try these resources you mentioned. Thank you!

I took both A&P together in the fall and I got A's in both but it was hard. I just finished micro this spring and also got an A but micro was really easy in my opinion. I think if you struggled taking the other two separately then it's probably not the best idea. Especially considering each of those classes also has a lab.

I would only retake the B class if it was preventing me from getting into a nursing program. It's a waste, otherwise.
