Taking A &P I and II and microbiology

Published

I want to retake A&P I and II because I want to strengthen my knowledge on these courses and also to improve my grade on both courses. I'm just not sure whether or not it is a good idea to also take Microbio together with A&P I and II. Since I just recently took them, I think maybe I can handle 2 A&P classes while taking microbio. Besides, I also don't work and I don't really spend a lot of time doing social stuff. So my question is, is it doable?

It's doable if you put a lot of time into it, but is it advisable? Not sure. Your needing to improve your A&P scores indicates you struggled with mastering the information before and may not have all the habits and skills needed to get an A currently. Why then, during the time you will need to be relearning and figure out what habits are necessary for you, add in a notoriously hard class? Would you be able to get an A (or B, whatever you are needing for your area) in micro with doing all three, or would you then be doing the same thing later, having to retake the class for a higher grade?

You know your abilities better than I do.

Remember, it is not 3 classes you will be taking, but 6 - each has a lab.

I took A&P 2 and Microbiology together and it was such a rough semster for me, i wouldnt recommend it. I ended up getting B's in both classes but i feel i couldve gotten an a in A&P had i taken them seprately

Besides, I also don't work and I don't really spend a lot of time doing social stuff.

I think the bigger question is; if this is what your last scenario was, what do you plan on doing to change your habits in order to get a better grade while concurrently taking the courses. Many people take them together in traditional 4-yr university BSN programs... but will you be disciplined enough to apply yourself even more than you did the first time... even though you have "some" knowledge already? Or are you banking on knowing "some knowledge" already and not having to study as hard?

Maybe look at taking each in an 8-wk 1/2 semester format, solo, so that you can focus more short-term vs two hard courses for the long-haul. Still get them both done in 1 semester, but only focus on one at a time.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm really hesitant to do so but since I am retaking both A&P classes, I already know how the lab goes and how to study for the lecture part. I actually did not do bad on both A&P - I received a B+ on I and A- on II - but I just wasn't motivated enough to push harder for that A.

I am motivated since my program only allows two tries for A&P. I'll also work harder on studying for the courses, of course, I can't retain ALL the information I have learned from a semester ago.

I don't think my school offers an 8wk course for A&P though. I can't take them over this summer term either since I'm already taking other classes. So I see no other way but to retake them together.

Are you seriously retaking an A-? LoL

If you got a B+ and A- in both A&Ps, why in the world would you want to retake them? You have time and money to waste??? Not to rain on your parade, but what if this time around you mess up and earn a grade lower than a B+ that you already earned? Your reasoning just does not make sense.

FWIW, I took A&P 1 and Micro at the same time and got As in both. Micro was hit and miss - I was a high B for a good half of hte semester, but I hit an A witih the final exam. Since you've already had all 3, I would think you would have an even easier time, though I'm also flummoxed at why oh why you are retaking a B/A- class...

Personally, I wouldn't take all three at the same time. I took A&P2 and Micro together and it was really difficult. I made an A in both, but almost a B in A&P. My friend took 3 science classes together, struggled the whole semester, and ended up only making an A in one.

I also don't work, so I have a lot of time to commit to studying. But, there's only so many hours in the day and you don't want to be extremely sleep deprived. Microbiology is a different world than A&P and the lab is really time consuming. Just writing up pre and post labs would take me hours each week. Also, will you be able to handle multiple tests and lab practicals in the same week? Is there any way you can take one during the summer instead?

I know it sounds insane and a waste of time but yes, I do have time to spare. I finished most of my prereq for pre-nursing during highschool and my first year in college which I just finished this sem. If I don't retake A&P courses, I only have BIO 251 to finish. I just want to really master A&P before entering the nursing program. Even though my grades are good enough, I think there's always room for improvement.
