Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Im looking for a nusing school to apply in New York or New Jersey never realizing how competitive it is!! Im looking for a nursing program in Assoc. for now. took some of the require classes for the program but my grades werent so hot, ive repeated A & P I 3 times due to some personal issues not realizing how important it is just to get in the program (obviously my school advisor did not help) and most school will not accept. Im taking my last class in A & P II and im doing fairly well in this class my GPA is 2.83 any suggested as to what should i do, ive done lots of research and im so stressed out, i really want to become a nurse and im feeling rejected by the school system now. i feel these school can be very unfare to us students ive thought about LPN straight into BS for nursing but what if then i still get rejected?:chair: PS. im also willing to take my Pre nursing classes over, and not pass them over to the school for eval, but is that possible?

Are there any certificate programs in your area. We have one such program in our area that admits students with not so hot GPA's

NYC nursing schools are very competitive! Maybe you should get your LPN first and then try for the RN. If you do decide to go that route you can apply to Hopfer school of nursing in Mt. Vernon which has a 13 month LPN to RN program or Helene Fuld which has a 12 month LPN to RN program as long as you have one year of experience. Westchester Community College gives some credit towards the ADN for graduates of their LPN program and so does Bronx Community College. Other than that if you are truly set on going the BSN route you might have to go a more expensive private college because CUNY's BSN programs are very tough to get into and require more pre-req's than non-CUNY schools.

Good luck!

Thanks a mill!, ive been doing research on LPN Programs too, but ive notice they can be competitive too. im looking into schools that once im certified to their LPN program i can be sent directly into LPN to an RN program from the same school. ill look into those schools that you mention as well. i graduated from a SUNY and the good news is that my jobs pays 100% reimburstment. (thank goodness). that infomation about the require pre-req's between suny and cuny i didnt know. appreciate your help.

Get over your fears and keep on trying.... If nursing is really God's intended course for you then you will have it... Just do your best and God will do the rest. We have a school here but this is not in USA... But I think there are still more schools in your place. Just do your part...aim high grades because it will show how far is your knowledge about what you have studied. not just aim to pass but aim high to learn more... that's one quality of a nurse...

They always "sharpen the saw". Nursing is a continuous process of learning. they never stop studying even if they are graduates already. You have to do the same if you want to become a Full Pledge Nurse!!! Okey? God bless and good luck.....

I think you can be a good nurse.... you have the spirit! keep it up..... good luck

Hi, I am so stressed out right now. My situation is a little different. I have a 3.579 GPA right now for my pre-requisites and a 2.76 undergrad GPA. I have applied to several accelerated BSN programs. I should be hearing back from one of them this week. And right now, i keep on thinking about it. I have not had good sleep in a couple of days now. I want this nursing school to work out because I have put in a good 3 years working and taking pre-reqs!!! if you have any advice, please advise!!!!!

Thanks,

maverickemt

i wish you the best of luck!!! i know how you feel.

Hi, Does anyone feel that all the hard work that they did in their pre-reqs will not be worth anything if they don't get accepted?

ABSOLUTELY, those exact thoughts have crossed my mind....I am 47, I don't have all the time in the world left and for once would like to have a great career and make decent money. The only thing I may get out of my science classes is that doctors and nurses can't fool me easily if I or my beloved family members have health issues.... one already tried, blaming me for being dehydrated when she couldn't get any blood from me. She did a bad stick job and tried to blame me....I told her I am in A&P and want to be a nurse, she didn't say much after that:roll

If I don't get into nursing school I will go back into elementary teaching (my original plan). I could have higher quality discussions with the kids about brains, guts etc...all the stuff that little kids like to talk about LOL

I absolutely love kids.

I hope that we all survive the nursing endeavor and don't lose our humor and zest for life over it.

Something good has to come out of all our efforts. I wish you the best of luck and I am concerned that you are not getting sleep. I have no answers for you and can only lend a shoulder to cry on....

Hang in there!!!!!

The one thing that I keep on telling myself is to look on the bright side of things. By this I mean, I have gotten laid off twice in six months from contract positions with Pharma companies. So this must be sign that nursing might be for me! I really hope so! And sometimes I tell myself to just hurry up and tell me if I am accepted or not. If I am not accpeted, it will put me out of my misery earlier and then I keep on applying to some other schools.Oh well, just thinking aloud and typing!

It's ok to type away...we all need to get things off our chests...I am listening.

That's great that you look at the bright side of things, I am always trying to do the same.

Hang in there!
