Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Anybody thinking about El Centro/ Northlake in the DCCCD for Jan 2006?

I'm hoping for Northlake too. I did my time downtown at El Centro when I got my CST. I mostly took the train because I am way to cheap to pay for parking. It would burn me every time I had to fork over $4 - $7 .

Why is everyone interested in NL or ElC. I am planning on Brookhaven, after I finish my support courses. Is there something I don't know?

I can't apply to Brookhaven, because I've never taken chemistry.

I don't know what the differences are between BHC and NLC/ELC programs.

Congrats and welcome! :)

Hey! Thought I'd pop in. I'm Celeste and I"m about to send my nursing app in next week. Just gotta get my TB screen read today so I'll be up at El Centro this afternoon. Just a few more things and I'm all ready!

Took my NET test Tuesday and passed that!

I applied for El Centro because I don't have Chemistry yet and I have a really good grade in College Algebra and don't they only accept students once a year instead of twice a year like El Centro and Northlake?

Northlake is the El Centro sattelite site. It used to be Brookhaven, but they got there own program within the last year or so. Yeah, Brookhaven is asking for Chemistry as a prereq. That scares off a lot of people. Last I read they also have an interview. EC and NL don't.

It may just be that people are more familiar with El Centro.

I've heard war stories from all of the campuses (BH, NL and EC) , so I am prepared for the worst. :p

Mountainview was trying to get a program going. I wonder how long it will take them to get up and running? Probably another year or two. :balloons:

Can I just say that I'm getting NERVOUS and I haven't even turned my app in? I have a 3.77 on the pre req's and 13 of my support courses....My heart races just thinking about it! And we have to wait til October???

Went up to El Centro..TB screen is negative! Just waiting on one more transcript.

Do you guys know if you have to have your real shot records or will they accept a copy?

Hi and welcome, TXMOM. Robmom1: I will agree with everyone above, most of us haven't taken chem yet. Several of us are taking it this semester.

I am applying to NLC/ECC, if need be, I may apply to BHC later.

TXMOM: They told me that a copy of my health record from my school would be acceptable. Also, on the packet, it says if immunization records are all on different papers, you can provide a copy. (READ THE IMMUNIZATION AREA TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T READ IT INCORRECTLY.) :)

I'm applying for NLC as my first choice as well. Hopefully we'll be together, along with LKG6 and Sunnyjohn (if she gets back to BigD in time.) ....and of course all the others that post on here that is applying for ECC as their firs choice.

Maybe our graduation will all be together. lol :)

I'm taking my application tomorrow after I have my PPD checked. (IS A BIG MOUND ON MY ARM A BAD THING????? lol j/k!!!)

COOOOMMMMMMEEEEE ONNNNNNNNNN OCTOBER!!!!!!

Good luck to us all!!!

You think you are nervous?

I am going to take an extra class or 2 this semester just to keep myself distracted! :rotfl:

With work, I think that will be enough to keep me from watching the calendar...

I want to go to Northlake too. Unfortunately, I have to wait until 2009-2010 to apply. You all will be practicing nursing for a few years before I even start. I am only taking one class a semester. So far I have only taken Eng 1301, Psyc 2301 & 2314, and this semester I signed up for the night class Spch 1311 at Northlake and it starts Monday. I don't know what to expect yet. I plan on taking all the pre & co reqs for both El Centro and Brookhaven. Hopefully, I can get in on the first try somewhere. On a different note, my husband is starting to think he wants to move to Grapevine. :nono: That would stink because SCIT 1407/1408 doesn't transfer there and they require Chem 1406 instead of Chem 1405 like Brookhaven. I told him if we do move I am finishing up at Northlake even if I have to pay out-of-disctrict fees.

L&D4ME....one class at a time or not, keep it up. It will pay off at the end....just watch out for the 5 year rule with your sciences!!!!!

As for chem, if you haven't had chem yet, do not take 1405. Take a higher one such as 1406, or 1411. I am taking 1411, and Brookhaven said they would accept it because it is a more advanced course than what the require. (UTA's RN-BSN requires 1411 or higher.)

I moved to Tarrant county, and pay out of county fees now to DCCCD. I've always went to NLC, or another DCCCD campus since I graduated high school. I just feel more comfortable there.

Good luck! :)

Grapevine would put you out of district? I thought most of Grapevine was Dallas County?

Even taking one class at a time you are doing great! If you take A&P during the summer at night at NL you can knock out both sections in one summer. The summer A&P instructor is awesome!

Yeah, Grapevine is not Dallas County. I think it's Tarrant?
