Pre Nursing Mom, wife working full time.

Hey guys,

First off I need to change my username. I know it says future RN but I dont know if that is allowed??? Im not sure.

I know this question has been asked before but I just wanted my own thread, with my own situation.

I am a mother of 3 (9, 4, 6month old). I am taking pre reqs right now hopefully to enter nursing school by Fall 2019.

I just finished my CNA class yay!! I am wanting to become an RN the school I am looking into provides the ADN program.

I make 55,000 a year now, I am just not happy where I am. I feel like nursing is my calling.

I did the CNA classes so that I can get a feel for the nursing enviroment, and possibly work as a cna on weekends while in nursing school.

Is this just wishful thinking. Is it possible to have 3 kids, work part time, and nursing school.

I have lots of family, and husband for support. I have a little money save--hopefully school loans and grants, and tax refund can help out as well.

I am pretty organized, and I love planning. Do you think nursing school is possible for me.

1. yes you need to change your username, using that is a title that is protected by law, its a misdemeanor to use it falsely in some states.

can't tell you if it's possible or not, thats completely up to you and your ability to manage your time. I have seen it done, so its not impossible. Best of luck to you.

Is it possible? Yes. But it is really difficult and most people can't do it without making some serious sacrifices. Are you prepared to make those sacrifices? You will have less income as you decrease your job hours -- and you might have to stop working completely for a while. You will have less time for your kids. You will have less time for your husband. etc. I could go on and on.

Think it through and identify what you are willing to sacrifice to make your nursing dreams a reality. Be prepared to make some hard choices -- and be sure your husband is willing to make those same sacrifices, too.

I am a husband and father of one (4yrs.) I work 40 hours a week. 0700-1500 on the days that I don't have class. I can't imagine what it would be like to have three.

That being said, you can do it. It will be hard, and I wouldn't expect straight A's after pre-reqs.

Just for reference, I study a minimum of 20 hours a week + probably 12 hours/week being AT school. It's a lot, but it's doable.

Is it possible to have 3 kids, work part time, and nursing school.

This is me, and yes, it's possible. It's hard though. I am not able to give 100% to my family, my education, or my job. But I am still an above-average student and I have made it more than halfway through my program.

You will definitely need the support of your husband and family. Good luck!

i dont know u but im proud of you lol i can only imagine how hard it is, and you are half way through!! what an inspiration i cant wait. thank you so much. good luck to you.

I'm still doing my prereqs now, but am in a similar boat to you. Have one kid (2.5), a good job, similar pay, but have done it for 10 years and just cannot continue in this career anymore. I had some big life changes last year that convinced me to finally just go for it and work toward getting that RN. I'm sure it will be a struggle, but it's totally possible. People have achieved harder things before. I'm currently away from home from 0500-1700 (9 hour work day and long commute), and I have micro lab twice a week from 2030-2200, which sucks. Time with my husband and son is tough to come by, but I can manage it. Nursing school won't last forever, and hopefully you can find something fulfilling once you're on the other side!

I just finished anatomy with a B. I have physiology, chemistry, and microbiology, and then I am able to apply for my ADN RN. The class was time consuming, I had to learn how to study a large amount in a short time.

I am so excited to step into this new phase in my life. I am sure nursing school is hard, but I am almost sure I have dealt with worst. I am a survivor by any means, and I love a challenge.

Just wanted to update my post. (Gonna keep updating until I can post on the nursing forum instead of student)!!!!

:)

meant fall 2020

Specializes in ICU.

My son is less than 2 years old, I can work 30 hours per week and still have weekends to dedicate to family (husband, son and some outings, with some studying). I just finished my first semester of my ADN program with four A's and one B - our first semester was 4 classes plus clinical. You can do it but it takes discipline to get ahead ans stay ahead with reading and assignments. Good luck!

Hey girl!! Just wanted to reach out. I have been plugging away at my pre reqs and now co reqs for some time! (Advanced phys this fall and I'm on to the program spring 2020 ) as long as I pass the TEAS which I am taking next month ? I just finished chemistry with a&p 102 this last semester and am taking my first summer off since I started this journey.

I also have two children and am a wife, husband works a crap ton. While I have no experience yet with the nursing program, I am here to chat if you need anything. It's hard and crazy, especially with no help nearby but we can totally do this!!!
