3 potential new jobs I can't decide

So I had the pleasure of meeting the clinical manager of Labor and Delivery unit, I was able to shadow her for my leadership class. She also introduced me to her manager, and long story short they interviewed me for a Labor and delivery residency and are moving forward with hiring me. This is awesome, however it will be for the night shift, and I have a 3 yo daughter and I'm having a hard time finding overnight childcare. And also they created the position for me, because they really wanted me to work for them.

Job number 2 is at a different hospital on a med surg unit for the day shift, i never wanted to consider med surg before, but after interviewing yesterday it opened up my eyes and made me look at med surg nursing completely different, and I must say i'm intrigued. the nurse manager who interviewed me is going to recommend me for hire.

job number 3 is with my classmate she was just hired on a med tele unit and they are very short staffed

Just a few days ago, I was unsure if i was going to be selected for any position, or even what my status was. I've called so many times back and forth to HR and nurse recruiters, that now i'm not sure which job to take.

Well you have some really great options now all you have to do is consider and factor in your home situation. Did you try to hire someone to baby sit or are you looking for a place of business for over night daycare?

I'm trying to find overnight child care and looking into a possible nanny, but both ideas scare the crap out of me!

Unfortunately i have no family or real friends out here in Oklahoma, and I love babies I'm really considering just taking the L and D job, I guess I'm just waiting for a background check and references to clear before hr can formally extend the offer to me

It sounds like med surge is more practical for you right now.. you can always move to OB later. I think being a single mom and working nights with a baby so young is going to take a lot out of you... as much as I'd want to take that OB position, I think you'll be healthier and happier with a day job (considering you have a toddler).

I think you're definitely right about that. Since I don't have the formal offer from either job, I guess i have to play the waiting game for now... thank you for the advice.

Based on my eons of experience, I have come to the conclusion that one of the most important factors should be the quality/skills of the manager. In general, people don't leave jobs, they leave managers.... conversely, a good manager can make even the most arduous job into a good experience. Signs of a good manager? Low 'voluntary' turnover. S/he acknowledges and addresses staff by name and is very aware with what is happening on the unit. Staff are actively engaged in activities that address unit/department needs. There is a fair and equitable system for: staffing, assignments, floating, holidays, etc. (you can ask about this)

First of all, congratulations!!!! Three offers are amazing!

Have you worked NOC before? How long are the shifts? 12 hr or 8 hr? If you haven't worked NOC before, it's very difficult to adjust--it takes a huge toll on your mental, emotional and physical health.

Choose whichever is the best option for you right now. The great thing is that you've already created an excellent relationship with the L&D manager, and I'm sure she'll understand if you decide to decline. But if you do decline, keep the line of communications open so that when you're ready, you'll have an 'in'.

I have worked NOC quite a bit in the past and don't mind it at all. I actually just got an email for an OR residency! i would get 6 months of training in the OR and in the classroom! this manager wants to hire 7 new grads and wants to call me back to set up an interview, the only negative is that this job is 1.5 hours away from where i live, but what an amazing opportunity!!!! lol now I feel even more stuck so to speak! but I am very happy and feel blessed to even be considered for any of these positions, I would love to do them all!
