Possible WCCCD Nursing Applicants

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I applied for Wayne County Community Nursing program 01/2011. I have yet to hear from the college if accepted or not :crying2:. Has any WCCCD applicants heard back regarding their applications? Everytime I call the Nursing office they tell me letters have not been sent out yet. The stress from waiting is killing me slowly.

Thanks schrellnicole!!! I've been looking for some good teachers! =) congrats to you too=)

me2006 I will try not too but I'm. You really understood what i'm going through now though lol but thanks for your kid words.

Hey everybody did you guys already start doing something about the immunizations, health, and PCR...? Did you guys already start something.... it says all should be ready on the day of orientation Aug 3rd.

cvn18 and schrelin Thanks and Congrates to you guys too :)

hey guys critical update ,

I dont know if any of you got your medical requirements in order yet , but I headed down to the St John providence hospital (occupational health section) to get multiple tests done , including the TB,10 panel Urine, and student profile. When I got there , they informed me that I had to get Titers for 5 different diseases (Per #3 requirement on the student profile) , basically they draw your blood to see if you're still immune to said diseases and dont need any boosters.

The TB skin test is a shot to the arm which they will check after 2 days to see if you have any reaction in the area.

Make sure you give them your address so they release the Titers & Urine results to you, and not the school which will most likely lose them.

Total was $227 with reduced student pricing.... (the MMR titer is $92 alone)

Any questions, feel free to ask.

hi guys,, i called the nursing office and they said your family dr can do everything for you. i went to my family dr on friday and so far it cost me nothing. i have did my urine, tb, td and the titer( blood work) xray and so far everything looking good. i went to the dr today and asked them to contact the hospital for the results and so far the results are pending and will be at my dr office on wednesday. what im trying to get at is , if you have insurance you should go to your dr and save you a few hundred $. good luck to all. i have also registered for the CPR class this coming sunday with the american health association. it cost $60 and its only a 4 hour course. good luck to all.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Contact your local American Red Cross for CPR classes to compare the cost. :twocents::nurse::idea:

hello everyone! congratulations to all who made it into the program and for those who didn't good luck on the next application. just keep on applying and don't lose hope! =)

anyway, i have a question, anyone here who are using financial aid loan? does the loan really takes forever to get/hear something from school if it's already approved? i am just wondering how long it takes for someone to know if his/her loan is approved before enrollment starts. loans not getting approved before enrollment period worries me because i might not get to sign in or get in the courses i am planning to take in a semester. i will be transferring from another college to wcccd to take the required 12 credits so i could apply in 2012.

have a nice weekend and thank you in advance!:)

thanks ali, that's what the nurse explained to me, if you are immune to one of the diseases, you don't need the booster. i hope that would be fine to our school. and the same thing, if you already had boosters, you don’t need to do the titers either.

for the cpr, i called the school and gave me a phone number (health education strategies) the acceptable school for cpr, i paid $60 and have done with that too. so far it seems, everything going smooth.

like ifuturenurse said if you have insurance, you can see your primary doctor if you don’t, you can go anywhere else including the st. john that listed in our attached letter. good luck to everyone!

Well I was trying to sign up for the CPR class and noticed they wanted the professional/healthcare provider CPR , not the basic. Im not sure if it will make a difference really, but the american red cross pro is $80 not $60.

If you want to do it with Red Cross, they call it Professional Rescuer Course it might be cost $80 I don't know. But the one that I went and did is Basic life Support (CPR) training is offer by American Heart Association.

This school that I mentioned earler health education strategies if you google it you can see it add michigan in it, cause it might bring other state as well (they have site and you can see all the classes). It is the same thing, the one that we need, they call it basic life support/healthcare provider course. In my card it says healthcare provider. If you want to save $20, you can go there otherwise it will be fine yours too.

Hi everyone, I'm an alternate for this coming fall. There are 7 of us and if a spot doesn't open for me in Sept I'm automatically placed in the Jan 2012 cohort. Although I'm an alternate I still have to get a health assessment and cpr training. I d love to keep in touch with u all since we may be in the same cohort. I wish everyone the best.

As far as I know, the "only" cpr class that is accepted at any school has to be by The American Heart Association" for Health Professionals.
